What do you think about how the Cleveland Plain Dealer said farewell to LeBron?

Here’s what the front page of the Cleveland Plain Dealer looked like today.

In our morning news meeting today another editor questioned whether this was an editorial statement or opinion. The implication of the question: This is opinion and didn’t belong on the front page of a newspaper.

I’m not saying we’d do this here in Oklahoma City, but imagine how it would feel to fans here if the Thunder had won the 2009 NBA Draft Lottery, drafted Blake Griffin, watched him lead OKC to the bring of an NBA title and then watched the hometown boy tell a national audience he was leaving for Miami.

But I don’t think this was an editorial statement or opinion. LeBron has left Cleveland and he left it his hometown without a championship, something he’s said he’s all about. I think the cover was dramatic, effective and mirrored the mood of a city. I love it’s simplicity and boldness. I think it was effective.

What do you think?

Get over it cleveland, u guys couldn’t deliver the goods to the king in seven years and now ur mad he is pursuing it elsewhere. He carried the cavaliers every step of the way, he put cleveland in the mix it was up to cleveland to bring him support. Look at kobe in los angeles he demanded support so he didn’t have to do it himself, but its almost like u wanted him to do it on his own, he is only one man and at times looks almost immortal but at the end of the day he can’t do it alone. I know his timing sucked and all because all the big guns are signed but show some class and respect. As for the owner grow up and be a man u could of kept him happy by getting him some help and guess what u prolly would of had a couple rings already. Well can’t wait to get it goin again next season.

By fingering the blame on LeBron, it makes them feel good about themselves. This is exactly what happens when people with a loser mentality do when they feel they have been wronged. Deflect, blame, and whine. There are 11 other guys on the roster over the last 7 years, including a totally inept coach that couldn’t win the title, not just LeBron. I am not a LeBron guy, but it’s obvious the Cavs are furious thier bellcow just left to a new pasture

LeBron can no longer be mentioned in the same breath as MJ, Kobe, Magic or Bird. Those guys built franchises, LeBron destroyed one.

Lebron has brought a lot of attention to Cleveland for the past seven years. He also brought a ton of revenue to the town during that period of time. His energy and knowledge of the game of basketball has made him the chamption that he is today. Instead of whining about him leaving, Cleveland should have given him a reason to stay. The owners of the Cavaliers did not put a championship team together. Viewers of the last game Lebron played in Cleveland saw the Cleveland fans turn on him as the crowd continued to BOO as he played his last minutes on the court. I’m sure that made him want to stay. That was totally disrespectful. Cleveland can be proud that they drove him away. It’s no wonder none of the remaining free NBA agents wanted to come to Cleveland. It is too bad a champion has to leave Cleveland to be accepted as a champion. Just ask Brian Sipe, Albert Belle, Jim Thorpe, Manny Ramirex, Sabathia, Omar Vizquel and Matt Barr. Not to mention Bernie Kozar who was run out of town by the coach.

I am surprised that Cleveland totally reacted like a “WOMAN SCORNED” Rejection is tough, but this attack on LeBron is beyond words. I truly feel pity and am sorry for them…not for LeBron leaving, but for the reaction. One point that did come to mind…us Texans tell Oklahomans how it is…. how it really is…. “Hey, why do Oklahoma plates have the motto OKLAHOMA IS OK ….. Cuz they couldn’t fit in the word MEDIOCRE !!!!!” Cleveland…ur Oklahoma.

MJ didn’t get a championship until after 7 years in Chicago. Lebron left before that because he knew he couldn’t build one! I don’t think Cleveland is really mad about him leaving but the egotistical way he did it. It’s all about Lebron and it always has been. He should of just been man enough to make the announcement and move on. The Decision is about the kids charity, Really???? Also to the last comment, really Albert Belle??????? Please don’t put his name in the same sentence with the others!

Hey Ignorant DonDada:

Idiot, how did LeBron destroy a franchise? Who gave a sqaut about this team before Lebron arrived. You and that Moron Gilbert ought to be kissing LeBron’s feet, among other things, given all of the attention, money, prestige, etc. he’s brought to the city of Cleveland. He made a business deal, just like Gilbert did when he signed LeBron. What does he think LeBron is, some kind of circus clown who should provide him with unlimited tricks??? And that foolishness about taking the curse with him–did this really cme from the mind of an adult. You, Gilbert, and the idiotic fans running around burning up “Anything LeBron” for the entire nation to see, help to authenticate the views of those who see Cleveland as the cesspool of America. This is entertainment fools!!! Why aren’t you as adamant about the wars, the oil spill, the economy, etc? The money those skanks paid for those things that they are burning has been banked & in LeBron’s pockets. And who the heck is gonna bring Cleveland a championship before Miami gets one–be real. Get off the pipe Danny Boy.

Hey Dan,

I really hope this email gets to you. I want to start out by thanking you. Last year a max player by the name of Amare Stoudmaire was able to be had. You opted to go after Antwan Jamison because you did not want to lose JJ Hickson. JJ Hickson? is this the guy who is going to bring you that “so called” titlewit in the next 5 years? You want to cry and bitch like a girl who was just left at the alter! You want to rip the one person who has made your beloved Cavaliers relevant in the NBA the last 7 years. The one person who more than doubled the value of your organization!

You shoul be ashamed. Gordon Gund should be ashamed.

You want to talk about loyalty, why fire Mike Brown? Why fire Mike Brown if you yourself said LeBron quit. Mike brown wasn’t out there. Dan you should be upset with yourself. Your fans should be upset with you. The city of Cleveland should be upset with you. You promised a ring that you and I both know will never happen. You acted on emotion which is understanding, but you will one day eat your words. You will feel the raft. You got bitch slapped by Pat Riley and Micky Arison and now you want to turn in on LeBron. Do us all a favor and shut your FATHEAD up and prepare to WITNESS a DYNASTY.

That’s the only WITNESSING you will be doing!

In closing your fatheads are overrated and over priced. But news is that LeBrons fathead is going for $17.41. Not Smart. For $5.00 I can make that horrific Cleveland logo go away and replace it with “LOS HEAT” with the # 6. So $99.99 – $22.41 = $77.58 savings! Thanks for the savings.

So again, thank you. Youre a bitter cry baby, BUT no worries. I live 15 minutes away from American Airlines Arena, I have my spot ready for the parade on Biscayne Blvd ready to go next year. You are more than welcome to come. And please bring your FATHEAD, your JJ Hickson Fathead, your Antwan Jamison fathead and that “so – called” ring you promised Cleveland.

I have to go now. Flash, C-Bosh and the newly crowned MIAMI KING LeBron are about to hit the stage.

If I’m not mistaken LeBron James completed his contract with Cleveland and he performed a service of which he was paid.At the end of that contract he became a free agent. Now from what I get, once a player becomes a free agent,he is ALLOWED to take his services elsewhere,so I don’t get the issue that people in Cleveland have with LeBron James. He wants to win and he will never do it there…

It is totally ridiculous to vilify a twenty five year old basketball player for following “His” dreams. It is not His fault that the Cleveland Chamber of Commerce and business community made him their Cash Cow. It is also not His fault, that the sports teams of Cleveland can’t muster any championships since 1964.

The young man is not a slave, for Cleveland or anyone else. The Cleveland Media should be ashamed of themselves. Your continual hate slash puplic lynching is reprehensible. Where are the unbiased reporter and anchor people.. Cleveland has a neanderthal way of acting and thinking when it comes to sports, and player.

Shame on all of you.

James M. Gardner

Thanks LeBron for putting Akron and Cleveland on the map and showcasing the cities to the world. The positive notoriety that you brought to the two cities in just seven years was a remarkable feat. I thought you would want to stay to finish the job by bringing a championship trophy or two to your home state. Like so many others, I was disappointed by your decision to take your talent to South Beach and win a championship with the Heat. But I too agree that the Cavaliers management did not do enough fast enough to bring the right group of players to support you in the quest nor did they have the right coach. Promises get stale after a while and like in any other business, one must move on when the current situation is no longer satisfying. Yes, I’m disappointed that you chose not to stay home but I also understand and support your decision. All I ask is that you remember where home is and remember the foundation that surrounded and supported you in Ohio. Surround yourself in Miami with the people who helped get you where you are today. Don’t succumb to temptation, stay strong, stay focused, and every now and then remember your fans and the good times in Ohio.

What you people dont get is-
Lebron was born and raised in Cleveland.
He plsyed grade school and high school ballin Cleveland and was drafted by the cavs. So pretty much, he was Clevelands son. And to quit in the playoffs and go on National Tv and imbarass his once family is just down right stupid. So Lebum, i hope you never win a championship and enjoy your 3-sum with bosh, who i quite frankly think sucks , and dwade.
Good day, and FU LeCHEAT

the pee dee sucks

the plain dealer never critizes rich folks like lebron.
They will censor the comment sof the little guy, for sure.

Lebron is the 6th most hated athlete in the world. he would be higher if the pee dee didn’t kiss the ground that he walks on.

If the pd thinks that can make lebron look good by covering the bicycle give away each year, think again. An Lebron is holding his basketball clinic in Vegas…what stays in Vegas….

bron’s back tonite, give him some heat. The peedee likes bron’s heat so much, they use the heat to melt the snow off the sidewalk in front of their offices.

the pee dee reports that James thought he might come back to Cleveland. The pee dee would love to report on this for the next 5 years until James makes his ‘decision.’

LMAO !

Le Bron chokes again when the all-star game is on the line and the pd smooths it over.

the pd yuks it up again with lebron.

When the pd has nothing to write about, which is quite often, they ‘right’ about king james.
