Romance survives the Holiday
If working at a flower shop on Valentine’s Day doesn’t kill any romantic spirit in me, nothing will. So if you’re like me and still feeling a little bit romantic, all you need to do is turn to Oklahoma’s great Romance Writers.
The new release list from the Oklahoma Romance Writers of America (OKRWA), offers something for everyone and every taste.
Need a little elegant romance in your life, try Amanda McCabe’s well researched, The Shy Duchess.
Christine Rimmer, Vickie McDonough, Tina Radcliffe and Linda Goodnight bring us the sweeter side of romance. I’ve noticed (since I’m a new NOOK owner) that several of Christine’s books are available for download.
Debra Cowan has a new historical romance set in 1886 West Texas. Debra also writes romantic suspense.
And speaking of suspence, Sharon Sala ‘s Blood Stain looks fantastic. I love the trailer, with just the music and words.
Want your Romance to be hot and steamy, with a touch of the bad boys? Check out the new titles by Jaci Burton, Myla Jackson and of course, Gena Showalter.
And very exciting, Merline Lovelace has a new Samantha Spade book I haven’t read yet called, Catch Her If You Can.
The holiday is over (and for some of us none too soon), but the Romance continues. . . .
Oklahoma v. Texas in our Hearts
What’s the deal with all the Oklahoma Romance Writers putting Texans or Texas in their books (and titles). Ok, I know it’s a big state with a big ego and probably any romance reader from there is going to jump at an opportunity to read anything with Texas in it. But give those Okie boys a chance.
Georgina Gentry has a whole series: To Love a Texan, To Tame a Texan, To Tease a Texan, To Tempt a Texanvand finally, To Wed a Texan.
Not bad looking I concede.
And there’s plenty of single titles with those Texans. Carol Finch’s Texas Angel. Please there are no Texas Angels. An
d Gina Robins’ Texas Temptation. Lisa Wingate is Texas Cooking. Peggy Moreland has Slow Waltz Across Texas and even Merline Lovelace has Texas Hero and Texas …Now and Forever.
And standing lonely on the bookshelf I found the Oklahoma Man by Delayne (Deborah) Camp. Come on Okie writers of the romatic, give those Okie boys a chance.
Not feeling the romance…
Romance, Valentine’s Day, Bah Humbug. Nothing like working at your husband’s flower shop on the “love” holiday to put you out of the romantic mood. Late hours, endless phone calls, desperate boyfriends and spouses trying to get in their last minute order. He’s promised me sushi and wine to keep me going. I happened to look at the newspaper at the shop and saw an article by Sonya Colberg of NewsOK about our own ladies of Romance. (And I’m glad it hasn’t been very long ago that I pointed out the funny videos by Jill Monroe, Gina Showalter and Merline Lovelace.)
So while I’m trying to get myself through another year of frenetic shopping by guys buying for their special honey, you might want to pick up one of the titles from these spinners of the romantic tale and get in the mood yourself. I’ll have to catch up with you when I get these customers moved along.
Oklahoma Romance Writers or OK-RWA
Oklahoma Author Blogs, Mel Odom, etc.
I’m a Mel Odom fan and look at his blogs frequently. I’ve noticed he posts many other Oklahoma authors to his blogroll. So here is my attempt to get us looking for those Okie authors and what they have to say about what they’re reading, writing, doing or just opinionating on. I think it’s interesting that more of the SciFi and Romance writers seem willing to get in there and talk to their fans and readers.
Odom has his Adventures in Writing , looks like he’s freezing at home like the rest of us this week. He also has BookHound, my personal favorite. Mel also contributes to Blogcritics magazine.
Gena Showalter, is hot, hot, hot. Start at her blog. And I just mentioned Showalter and low and behold I find her and Merline, on Merline Lovelace’s website in a Youtube video. (Be patient it takes a while to load).
Jill Monroe, who is also on the video has a blog. Jordan Dane, has a three book series out (which I’m the proud owner of, but haven’t finished yet so you won’t get any information out of me). Here is her myspace page blog.
What’s progressing with C.J. Cherryh?
Christine Rimmer is an incredibly generous author who gave free books to the Oklahoma Department of Libraries for our women correctional institutions. Much appreciated.
And I need to add a mystery writer to the list, William Bernhardt, and might I say Congratulations on your marriage!! We just received his new book, Nemesis, at the library.
So start looking for others to add to this list and I’ll be happy to post them.
