When I was a wee lad (early elementary school), my sister, who's 12 years older than me, read me scary short stories from an Alfred Hitchcock collection. The one story that made the most impact on my young mind was Bradbury's "The Whole Town is Sleeping." It's an excellent story of suspense, and I've always thought that story helped turn me into a reader. And I have to say, my sister did a great job reading aloud to her little brother, acting out the parts and conveying the suspense with such urgency!
