I wonder, then, if Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple books qualify? The protagonist and setting certainly match the definition. Were they the first cozies? If they are, then I read cozies in junior high! Since I haven’t read others, I don’t know how Marple compares to current cozies in tone and humor.
