Busted! No, Kitty, I have not heard Zaireeka the way it is intended to be heard. I don't even own the 4-CD set, and I have all of the other Lips records.

This is where it gets even more interesting. There have been individual mp3 files of each song available for download on the web for some time. These individual songs feature remixes of all four tracks into one track so you can listen to them on your own. That's what I have, and I have enjoyed listening to them. But I've always wanted to experience the real thing.

Coyne and the band have never sanctioned the mp3 remixes, nor have they discouraged them. They will say, however, that Zaireeka was always intended to be a social event, experienced on four separate CD players.

There are rumblings that the band will eventually issue a single CD of the album in 5.1 surround sound. (I do have a 5.1 system, so this would be cool!) And the technology out there is letting people make their own 5.1 CDs from the original four discs:

Anyway, I just thought Richardson's book was a wonderful tribute to the album and I wanted to share. Plus, like I stated, it really made me think about creativity and art, and their place in the world. Thanks for letting me write on your blog!
