A question for you ??

You like an author or you stand in line to get an autograph or you just happen to meet one at an author event, panel, etc. and you realize they’re really a pompous jerk. They seem way to enamored with their own persona. Do you stop reading them? Do you just wonder how someone with so little social skills could write insightful works? Does it matter what an author is like in person if they know how to write? Do we divorce ourselves from discourteous behavior or boorishness and appreciate the written word?

What say you????? Thumbs up to the writer or thumbs down.

Thumbs Up

I’ll assume they’re having a bad day. But if I hear of another unpleasant experience, then… well, then I might think twice before picking up one of their books.

I’m feeling a bit testy this month, so I should remember we all have a bad day (or month or year), Kitty

I guess it’s possible that some of these authors are just having a bad “life.” :-(

Happily most of the time, authors are gracious, generous, interesting, enthusiastic and inspire us to read and think. So two thumbs up to the lot of them.

You’re obviously less grumpy at the moment. ;-)

I guess it depends on how obnoxious and/or rude the author is. If he/she is really rude, I may struggle buying one of their books again, but I’ve never had this happen. In fact, just the opposite. The authors I’ve met have been so kind and positive, and I end up liking that author all the more. Bad day or not, an author should put on a good face when meeting the public…just good PR on his or her part.
