In 1998 a site was chosen for the Chesapeake Energy Arena, but it was still being used as the Metro Transit bus transfer station as the city council was considering shelving the project due to a shortfall in MAPS funding. The convention center was known as the Myriad, and the Renaissance had yet to be built.
