Redesign

Start construction yesterday.

there is no reason to remove the existing trees

Keep the trees. They already cut the ones down by the Memorial and La Luna and replaced them with new ones. What a waste.

rand has done some cool things. this one is out of place. the civic center was done in the 30′s, replacing the old railroad facilities. its art deco look is not only a point of pride, but one of the few remaining historical landmarks left in our “urban renewal paradise.”

one of the things that makes jackson square so awesome is that it fits within its setting. this proposal could be great in a different venue, but it just doesn’t belong here. the trees should stay. the monuments could be respectfully re-incorporated in a different arrangement, but they, too, should stay. this project ought to look like something robert moses would have done in new york back in the 30′s (like jones beach, only tiny).

save the modern, visionary young people’s stuff for C2S.

Plwase, please, PLEASE don’t take out the trees. Every time I see the crap trees they put in for projects like this, I wanna scream. We need old growth trees to make these areas more hospitable.

I’m sure that the Rand design would be wonderful to view from the air. Most people will experience it from the ground. Leave the old trees, design around them, remember the great art deco design of the Civic Center. To Rand – better doesn’t mean total removal of existing plantings, etc.

KEEP THE TREES!!! Good lord.
