Thanks for sharing that. It was special and real. Really special. And I got misty when you referred to misty. I always get misty when I hear it. So thank you. And thanks
to all the creative people that help people dream the dream
to achieve their dream(s). And who help other people
dream dreams. Now I'm getting a little misty. But thanks for this inspiring post.

Damn, Steve (and Brian), after reading both blog posts I feel like I need to stand up and salute something.

July 4, 2008 will always stand out in my mind. I was watching the various downtown fireworks displays with friends and family from Leadership Square South. My daughter, then 14, had just returned from church camp and had not heard that the Sonics were relocating from Seattle to Oklahoma City. I pointed toward Bricktown, and tried to explain to her how dark downtown used to be. Toward the place an old non-descript warehouse used to stand near Sheridan and Oklahoma where my old band played our Pope of Rock-and-Roll show before she was born.

(Obligitory aside where I'm forced point out that in the early 90s, Gazette readers voted Blueroom as Oklahoma City's best alternative band, edging out - here's the tie-in with Brian's post - the Lips)

Then we looked south down Robinson to the Ford Center. I told her that from now on, we don't have to cheer for someone else's team. We had become huge fans of the Dallas Mavericks when we lived in southeastern Oklahoma, but no matter how many games we saw live, or listened to on TV and the radio, they never truly belonged to us. Now we had our own team, our team. Honestly, it made me a little misty as I thought about how far Oklahoma City had come and how much farther we'd go.

Brian did a great job summarizing that feeling, as you and others also do regularly. It's why we - at least those of us not economically affected by the construction - don't complain a lot about torn-up Project 180 streets and continually tax ourselves voluntarily. Why we all assume there will be a MAPS 5 and 6 someday, with the Tommy Gunn's out there looking to take down the champ. The consternation over site locations, timelines and streetcars, about the old and/versus the new is a necessary and good thing.

Thanks for starting my day on a good note.
