The Latest on NW 15th and Broadway

I met with the designer Dave Ledbetter this morning. He’s not ready for a full-fledged story. But he showed me computer animated renderings of the project. The name “Exhale,” he said, is the name of the company doing the project, but won’t be the name of the restaurant/club. Exterior rendering is an old west motif, somewhat of a nod to the original Oklahoma Station. The rendering shows the restaurant’s proposed name is “Broadway Station.” He also said the owners, whom he did not identify, are a Lawton family that did well in ranching and are pursuing their dream of owning and operating a country/western venue.

This will be fun to watch all the developments!! Thanks for posting!!

Regardless of the clientele being sought, hip-hop/gansta, western swing, or ballroom dancing is this really a compatible usage for this property in view of the neighborhood to the west???

MikeN Can you not read where in the hell did it say is was a gang related place which part of a chip off of toby kieths did you not understand!! ppl like you and the reporter are the ones keeping this stirred up!!!!

The proposed name is not broadway station that was just a name put on the plans to show them how it could be posted on the building for good visibility.

Danny, I’d strongly recommend you give me a call at 740-4139 or email me at slackmeyer@oklahoman.com. The pot is getting stirred up by a lack of clear communication on this project. If you are involved with this development, please understand people have a right to know what’s going on BEFORE it is voted on by the Planning Commission. What they’re seeing in the zoning application is a layout that some readers believe is similar to one used in strip clubs, and a name in the application (Exhale) that indicates a nightclub, not a combined country/western restaurant and entertainment venue. I met with the designer, Dave Ledbetter, and he gave me the information I posted above. Mike is not suggesting it’s going to be a “gang related place.” He is questioning whether it’s an appropriate location for this big of a eatery/entertainment venue. Again, Danny, if you’re with the group doing this project, I STRONGLY recommend you contact me and communicate what’s going on.

Thanks Steve that is exactly my point. Whether this type of establisment is a good fit for the location NO MATTER WHAT CLIENTELE it attracts. Danny as Steve has so graciously offered contact him and clear this up NOW!

Danny let me educate YOU a bit aka “take you to school”. This is NOT THE FIRST project that was advertised as one thing and a completley different venue when opened.

Danny, Steve has given you a golden opportunity to clear this up, IF you have any knowedge about it.

Man, I want to pile on, but I think MikeN already posterized you, Danny.

I am the general manager of Exhale. Everyone needs to calm down. Steve, I will be in touch with you.

Rhonda please do. Also be prepared to fully answer all his and our questions even giving up the name(s) of the owners, name of the facility, and what clintele you are going after. Secrecy is not the way to go here.

Exhale needs to learn how to better handle their PR.

Settle down, MikeN you could scare off a country/western business… What would OKC do then?

I agree with the points regarding transparency of plans, but I do think this dialogue could be more productive with less combative style of communication. Doesn’t help anything to flame people to pieces and personally, think it needs to be moderated a bit.

For Danny and Rhonda –
Some people are curious, some are concerned.
All are potential customers of your new venue.

You might consider there are good public relation moves, and there are bad public relation moves.

This is just a suggestion, but you might want to not rely on the Integris approach when you address someone with a concern.

Good luck to you, whatever your product turns out to be.

I am also concerned with unwanted elements coming into my hood. This doesn’t appear to targeted to the hip hop crowd though. Looks like they are targeting folks from the burbs. Do we really want Mooreons and Yukonites invading uptown. Seems like Toby Keith’s already accompdates them in the downtown area.

[...] it was going to be a hip-hop club.” Folks, read the previous posts for yourselves. Here and here. I did no such thing. The Board of Adjustment vetoed the application for a variance on parking. But [...]
