Danger Warnings in Bricktown?

An interesting conversation is taking place over at www.okctalk.com about America’s Pub in Bricktown. I wonder if anyone in Bricktown is aware of this discussion, or what it could mean to the district if this situation is true and blows up.

Interesting conversation. I’ve personally never been there, mostly due to what I’ve heard. The people whose opinion I choose to listen too are typically pretty reliable.

My brother visited America’s Pub once. Once was enough, and I asked him why. His answer… “Wall to wall d-bags”.

Is this the clientele we want in Bricktown? We can get that kind of atmosphere at a nightclub in Lawton after military graduation.

Wow, Chris, what an absurd thing to say about some of our military personnel.

Anyway, the type of clientele that frequents America’s Pub is not the type I would prefer in Bricktown, but it’s not our job to dictate who can go to Bricktown and who cannot. Furthermore, if anyone thinks this type of clientele is the sole fault of America’s Pub, you haven’t been to Skyy Bar, Coyote Ugly, Club Albee, or Rok Bar–all of which have similar clientele. In other words, Bricktown nightlife is primarily for women with bleached hair who have spent far too long in the tanning bed and men with too much gel in their hair who think they’re all the next Ken Shamrock UFC fighter.

They’ve found their place in Bricktown, which is why I no longer go there. I’m not saying I’m better than they are (I am, though); I’m just saying I prefer to go to locations they aren’t. Still, I’m not going to tell them where they can go or can’t go.

Joe, is it the community’s “job” to say “no, drug dealing by a bar or club is not acceptable and not welcome?

Yes, I believe it is. But that’s not what I responding to. I was responding to a characterization of the clientele as “wall-to-wall d’bags,” which is a separate matter. The fact is the clientele that hits up Bricktown’s nightlife is full of the people I described above–indeed, it is commanded by them. If they are dealing drugs, as alleged at America’s Pub, then that’s a matter that definitely needs to be addressed by the community. If what people are alleging with America’s Pub, that place will likely be gone very soon, and rightfully so. I hope that’s not a more widespread issue in Bricktown. If it is, that district will be in major trouble.

First of all, for clarity, has America’s Pub been proven to deal drugs or have some crafty patrons snuck it in themselves? Secondly, having been to the AP here a few times and talking to a few friends in Kansas City about their AP, it’s eerily similar what kind of crowd the chain brings in. Should this have been further researched before AP even came to Bricktown?
Finally, America’s Pub personally isn’t my kind of watering hole exactly, but however it is for quite a few other people in the local area. So I think it could be said that most of those entering the establishment know what they’re getting themselves into. Could the place be seen as overly tacky and pompous? Maybe. Let’s get something straight however, if Bricktown wants to have a nightlife they are going to need bars and clubs to compete. Even though drug distribution should not be tolerated to any degree, the type who run such places are generally a shady bunch.
Personally, I think Bricktown is missing a good everyman’s bar (think Baker Street or Logan’s on Campus Corner in Norman for examples).

Joe, this doesn’t concern our military personnel. This concerns the attitudes of the guys in that nightclub. I was in Lawton in 2009 for a wedding (same weekend as graduation) and the nightclub we went to was packed with a lot of people that weren’t exactly nice.

Surely you guys jest. Bricktown is a family place right? All the bars and nightclubs in Bricktown are family bars and nightclubs right?

for what it’s worth, if there is a club that attracts wall to wall d-bags, I’m all for that. If they are at AP, they aren’t where I am so that’s a plus.

If the place actually is a drug haven, it ought to be shut down, but hopefully some other place that wants the green from the wall to wall d-bags pockets will rapidly welcome them to their new home. They could even call it Affliction for all I care.

I’ve never been to America’s Pub, but I can attest that from going to other bars that Bricktown is full of douches late at night. But I’m okay with that. I agree with BTDT above: If all the d-bags go to one place, that just means I know where I don’t want to go. Let the d-bags go to their bars, and I’ll go to mine.

As for the drug dealing, I don’t think it’s a problem for Bricktown as a whole unless the problem extends beyond America’s Pub to the other clubs. If it’s just AP that’s doing it, it’ll get closed down and some other douche-Mecca will replace it, with no real harm to Bricktown.
