MidTown Housing Live Blogging: Chuck Wiggin
First impressions: the Wiggin proposal is a lot more specific on project details, less time spent on team introductions, details of surrounding neighborhood given by Ellard. Wiggin is addressing criticisms in committee evaluation a lot more than Ellard.
Wiggin disputes criticisms in review that his project is “institutional, cheap, suburban, Disney-esque.”
Also promises he’s not building to sell, notes others are doing so – is this a subtle slam at the Gary Brooks/Mike Henderson team, who built the Legacy at Arts Quarter nearby only to sell it at a steep profit a couple of years after completion?
Whoa! Can’t believe what I just saw. Wiggin presented two sketches as representative of the work done by the team’s architects at Architectural Design Group. One sketch was the original rendering submitted to Urban Renewal several years ago on Legacy complex. Problem is, those designs were changed dramatically later on. We’re now reminded of how Gary Brooks/Mike Henderson changed their proposal for Legacy from a brick and cast stone facade to one of largely EFIS (a much derided version of stucco). Subtle move…
