Irony of the Day?
If you read today’s story about the OG&E substation, I’m still a bit confused about a comment made by MAPS 3 Program Manager Eric Wenger. After the city council argued they never approved reserving $30 million for the substation move, Wenger said he is keeping the $30 million item in the master plan because the council DIDN’T VOTE to take out the $30 million.
He is correct. But the city council DIDN”T VOTE to direct city staff to redirect the $30 million to the substation either. Remember, voters were told BY THE CITY that $280 million would go for the convention center, and never suggested $30 million of that would be diverted to the substation.
I’ve never seen city staff make a budgetary policy decision involving this much money, without any policy vote by the city council, in the 15 years I’ve covered downtown development and City Hall.

I agree with the last post. Let this see the light of day!!! Is this whole process as shady as it seems? Seems set up and calculated all the way around. KEEP UP THE QUESTIONS STEVE!!
Sounds like a non-elected official can take any amount of money out of any MAPS# project using the same rationale and hold it. Smells fishy.

Steve, what will it take to elevate this to the front page of your paper. The implications of this kind of activity is huge.
