Grocery Store Time

So if you had your choice….

Would you prefer to see a Braum’s downtown? A Forward Foods Market? Or an ALDI, Walmart Neighborhood Market or Homeland?

Aldi or Forward Foods please.

Braums is the greatest fast food establishment on earth so that wouldn’t suck, but forward foods would be really cool!

Aldi would be a great fit for Downtown, if the location is right. My opinion? Aldi would be a great fit in Automobile Alley, being close to Deep Deuce, Regency Tower, and short-drive for Bricktown and Midtown residents.

Aldi, forward foods or a new homeland….. no walmart or walmart divisions…. Braums doesnt offer enough to be a grocery store – it’s a need something quick market…

Aldi would be great. I’d also love to see Forward Foods keep the kind of selection they have, but also add in a few more staples, and a butcher counter so that it could be a place you could purchase the ingredients for an entire meal.

I boycott Walmart, so please, no Walmart Neighborhood Market. I’d have a difficult time not shopping there and wouldn’t be happy about it.

Wait! You left out Crescent Market. Is there no chance? I still think it would be absolutely perfect for Automobile Alley or Midtown.

Personally I’d like to see a Braums since it’s local and would be a great addition to the bricktown area. I think their prices are fair and they keep a decent amount of grocery items in stock.

I don’t think an ALDI would do well if someone is spending that kind of money to live downtown, their food tastes don’t really match up to what ALDI offers.

Downtown needs a real grocey store, not a hyper-specialty niche-market store. Braum’s = ice cream, Walmart = cheap and dirty, Forward Foods = exotic meat and cheese, Aldi = affordable grocery, fresh produce, urban-friendly design.

My vote is for Aldi.

I would prefer a Walmart Neighborhood Market because they have a greater overall selection.

Forward foods would be awesome! Maybe a nicer Crest foods like the one that was just recently built

WNM or Aldi, not FF… function is better than fru-fru.

Forward Foods will probably move downtown anyway, but I’m not sure it would satisfy the need for a grocery store in the area. I’d be interested to see what ended up happening to Crescent Market, and of course, if downtown can get a standard grocery option that would be very nice.

I want whatever store will make a sincere commitment to safety. Have you been to Coney Island after five or on weekends? You can’t get in the place without being accosted by ‘urban outdoorsmen.’ There’s a very fine line between ‘asking for money’ and ‘robbing someone.’ These guys walk that line very carefully, but the underlying threat is real. You can’t live on the streets without keeping a knife hidden on you somewhere. Keep that in mind next time one of them approaches you.

Braum’s on 17th is the same way, with drug dealers hanging out on the blank west side wall after dark. And that homeland…

I’m in Mesta Park, and I drive all the way to May Ave. to get groceries, just to feel safe. There’s no way I’d bring my children to a downtown grocery store unless they made a very visible effort to keep things safe for their customers.

crescent market

Homeland – if it was like the Homeland at Britton and May

There is a Homeland not far from downtown. The WalMart neighborhood market on 23rd is one of the worst supermarkets there is. Aldi, Forward Foods, or Braums. Braums would be pretty nice, could get some ice cream or a burger in addition to their produce.

Forward foods. Please no Braums or Walmart, and I live downtown.

Forward Foods, definitely! The location on Western is great, but seems too close to the future Whole Foods to work over the long run…

Trader Joe’s, please.

Perhaps a Buy For Less ala NW Expressway/Portland? Or Crest?

Why aren’t those guys on the list?

all of the above, plus:
Dodson’s
the Earth
Fresh and Easy (Tesco, UK)

I like the idea of Aldi and the Crescent Market, but Braum’s does sell quality food (On their market side) at affordable pricing. I currently live in Norman, so in fairness I don’t know about the locations in the city, but the one here has some of the some of the best produce in town and great meats as well along with their famous dairy products.
I just think that because Braum’s is an Oklahoma company, they should play a part in the development of our capital’s core.

Stuttering via internet post, a new highlight for me.

Please NO WALMART! Having them and a Braums in are core downtown neighborhood would be embarrassing. We have enough fast food chains around here and don’t want visitors seeing that we rely on fast food to get basic stables. This is why we’re fat!

I vote for Aldi since it’s affordable and has a decent selection of items. Forward Foods is too expensive and caters to a specific crowd. We need diversity/options in our store downtown. Crest really should invest into an urban store design in the downtown area. They are, by far, the best grocer in town.

Ideally, Trader Joe’s… Next choice, Homeland/Crest with plenty of organic basics. If it has to be small, Forward Foods or Crescent Market.

Although I haven’t been to Coney Island after dark, in 2+ years I have never felt unsafe at Homeland or Braum’s on Classen, or any other downtown business.

FF + a 7 day farmers market.

I agree, “ALL OF THE ABOVE”

I think if you want a downtown full grocery store, you would be much better off trying to make a deal with Crest who might be a lot more willing to give it a shot than a national chain.
