norick is absolutely deserving of recognition. moreso, perhaps, for how he managed to truly remain non-partisan.

i hope that we are one day soon equally praising kirk humprhey's efforts at having actually turned around okc schools. if, one day, we actually have people moving FROM the suburbs into okc because of the better schools, we will have accomplished something virtually no other city in the united states has. again, i said "hope."

i also hope that one day we will say that mick fully lived up to the model that norick set. time will be the test of that.

Maybe I haven't paid close attention, but it seems that Mick usually doesn't take full credit. It seems like when these awards are given that he always says something like, "It's not just me. There are a lot of people in Oklahoma City that have made this happen..." or something like that...

Nick, maybe they should remove the word "vibrant". Booming isn't such a bad description.

Steve, I have not forgotten about Mayor Norick. I bet most people who care about this blog haven't either. But thanks for the post. It's amazing to see what the canal used to look like.

Good point Nick. Of course, this one line was, I must confess, lifted from a description used by the World Mayor Project. Attribution has since been added.
It's important to keep one's perspective while showing pride in the city.
