OKC Talk Update from Pete
Happy 4th of July! The site has been completely cleaned of the virus but unfortunately the upgrade has been problematic.
We’re still working on it and hope to have everything up again in the next couple of days.
Thank you for joining our conversation on OKC Central. We encourage your discussion but ask that you stay within the bounds of our commenting and posting policy.

The site is up and working tonight. It has a much different look and the navigation is a little different but seems to be working fine.
Wow, this has been a process! Because I bought the site from the original owners, there were lots of little wrinkles due to the previous setup, and we’ve been working for days on cleanup and upgrades.
We are now on the latest, greatest version of vBulletin and have locked down the area where the problem set it.
It’s going to take us a few more days to re-index and get things cleaned up, but the site should now stay up for good. And future upgrades should be much more smooth.
Look forward to seeing everyone back on the site and resuming our usual, spirited discussions!
Pete
I just tried to visit okctalk but got a malware warning. Pete, is that just left over from before or is there still a problem? I hate to ignore that warning unless you’re 100% sure it’s okay.
If you have the site bookmarked you may get the following message:
404 Not Found
The resource requested could not be found on this server!
I had to go to http://www.okctalk.com and navigte to the correct forum. Have to do it again because I forgot to re-bookmark it…LOL
As of last night, I was still getting malware warnings on m home computer. At work, I continue to get “this webpage cannot be found” message.
Best of luck in the reparations. Hope you can get everything back online soon. I need my fix!
You are getting a Malware warning because you have your security setting in on your browser to warn against sites that have any suspicious activity in the last 60-90 days. Even though the problem is fixed, your browser will still warn against it. The warning can be fixed if Pete uses Google Webmaster Tools to have the site reindexed.
For the 404 errors… the url strings are currently not the same as the old site. You need to go through http://www.okctalk.com and navigate to the page. I used to always go straight to Metro Area Talk, but that url string is currently not accurate.
Hope that helps those that are trying to get back on the site.
I’m having to use Internet Explorer to view the site right now. When I bypass Firefox’s “attack site” warning, the forum doesn’t fully load correctly. Looks great in IE though! Thanks for the update, Pete.
I am posting this at 7/7/2010 at 7:53 pm at Steve’s request. He just phoned me and asked me to report that:
His laptop computer became infected with a virus while on OkcTalk.com and it has once again become disabled as a result.
I was on the OkcTalk.com website for over an hour late Wednesday night before I saw this here about Steve’s problem. I had no problems at all and many others were there and posting with no mentions of problems. Perhaps Steve still is experiencing some hangover affects from the previous crash?
There is not a virus on the site (just double-checked with our hosting company and diagnostic tools) so I’m not sure what happened to Steve.

Mayor Mick just called it a conspiracy!
