News on OKC Talk

Pete, the owner, posted the following on his Facebook page:
“Sorry everyone but we had to pull the site down for a couple of days to do some maintenance. Hope to have it back up in a day or two and will post again when things are ready to go.”

OkcTalk.com is now running even if imperfectly. Pete has this message posted there as of 3:00 p.m. or so today:

“As of about noon today, we restored the site and removed the virus.

To safeguard against anything like this happening again, we’ll be upgrading to the latest version of vBulletin (4.0) and making sure our hosting company stays on top of the updates in the future.

I sincerely apologize for the problems. This happened at the worst possible time; as I was leaving to do an Ironman triathlon and thus completely consumed for several days and THEN my laptop crashed (independent of the problems here) AND my iPhone decided to stop working.

At any rate, we might have some glitches for the next couple of days but the site should be safe for you to visit.

If you have any further concerns please direct them to me personally via private message rather than posting them on the forum.”

You will still get Google’s warning when you enter OkcTalk.com and/or move between pages there. That is something that Pete will have to communicate with Google about.

The software isn’t perfectly set up yet, either, but at least it is functioning again.

Forgive me, but I’m not going back for awhile. That virus totally f****d my work machine up and I was out of comission for 2 days. I can’t afford that again.

I’m going to wait for everyone else to test the waters, AND wait for the the forum to be upgraded to the latest vbullentin software.

Above, I said, “You will still get Google’s warning when you enter OkcTalk.com and/or move between pages there. That is something that Pete will have to communicate with Google about.”

That was an error. It’s not Google’s warning, it’s a Firefox warning. OkcTalk still needs to communicate with Firefox to get that warning removed. If you are using IE Explorer, you won’t get those messages … but if you are using Google Chrome as your web browser, you will.

When I’ve clicked on OKCTalk the last couple of times this evening, I get a message that says, “if you are getting this message, something has gone terribly wrong”.

I appreciate that Doug is saying he can access the site again. But I’ve still not gotten an all clear yet from the owner or his technical help (they both know how to reach me and I believe they’re aware of these updates). Until that happens, I still urge folks to stay away. I will gladly celebrate their safe return.
