Good News … and Bad News
I’m meeting with a developer tonight who has a track record of doing huge downtown redevelopment projects involving old warehouses, office buildings and hotels and turning them into housing. We’re talking projects in the tens of millions of dollars and properties dating back to the 1860s. His portfolio tops $100 million in development.
Good News:
This developer is ready to buy one of the largest vacant buildings downtown Oklahoma City that has yet to be targeted for redevelopment (no, it’s not one of SandRidge’s buildings). He also wants to buy some surrounding buildings as well.
Bad News:
The signature of the governor’s pen may ensure this deal dies a quick death.
Read my Main Street column tomorrow….
UPDATE: And the answer is… Bond Bakery.

This is exciting, but also something I’ll tread with caution in terms of it actually happening. That legislation will suck if signed into law; hopefully whatever project this is, this developer maeks it ambitious and exciting.
To those of you up reading my blog at 11 p.m. – here’s your reward. The property in question is the old Business Archives Building, which was originally the old Bond Bakery.
Read my Tuesday column for more details…
That was an interesting tip. So far I’ve narrowed it down to every building that I am not aware of or do not know by name..
He’s talking about the old bread bakery over by Broadway off NW 13th I believe. I’m positive the area he’s talking about, but it may not be 13th it may be 12th or 14th, but you get the general area.
If the bill is signed, it will cost the state more in tax revenue than it will save with the tax cut.
Also, I forget the developer, it’s been discussed before on OKCTalk. Bert Belanger I believe. See one of the old threads.

Jeffrey, you constantly challenge me to back up what I say on this blog, you often take the contrary view to the crowd, you’re smart in how you go about all this – and now funny. I like you. One of these days I want to meet you in person.
This was probably decided on jointly, since both parties have to agree about the budget. Is that right?

The First National Center…ha just kidding.
