Why?

It’s been awhile since we’ve hit up the most simple form of journalism there is: a situation captured so well by a single photo that sending the photo with the question “Why?” pretty much gets to the heart of the matter. And so we have our latest “why?” which I’ll be sending to Jim Cowan, director of the Bricktown Association (for one more week)  and planning director Russell Claus.

When did the green space along the canal become a parking lot? We're seeing this most weekend evenings.

It sort of goes with all of the other surface parking lots in downtown. Why not make at least some use of the grassy football field in the middle of an urban warehouse district.

People would rather pay cover at Rok Bar than pay to park…

The Bricktown Association is aware of this issue and working on getting it resolved!

That lot just screams “HOTEL!” I wonder what the holdup is – perhaps the uncertainty over the location of the c.c.?

Tacky. This should be unexcusable in a City this size. Embarrasing.

Jeffrey, I think you hit the nail right on the head.

Jeffrey, if this is the location I am thinking of, it has been like that since the canal opened. What building was there before they built the canal?

It has been that way since opening. You’d have to go back and investigate pictures of that lot while there was still a street there. Our friend Doug would probably be able to find this out.

I remember seeing a design for a hotel a while back that was actually going to take both sides of the canal- the big lot and the little strip to the west of the site. There was even going to be a bridge over the canal to connect the two. That would have been cool.

I’m sorry, the little strip of land to the EAST of the canal.
