The USO Building ??????

Yes, I vaguely remember the USO building from my toddler years (mid-late 1960s), but I cannot remember what corner it stood. I want to say Main and Walker, but I know I’m wrong.

100 N Walker?

It’s the USO Building. And it still stands. Where?

It is at 431 W. Main and was originally a furniture store. It’s on the NE corner of Walker and Main and has a new facade.

Look at the streetcar system in place. Just imagine if it wouldn’t have been ripped out…

Steve – Today’s USO building? Using Larry’s suggestion, I found it on Google Maps http://twitpic.com/12n2p8

That building was at the corner of Walker and Main Street.
It opened as a department store….it started with an S….
It was open for a few years, and then the building was
abandoned…and now houses part of the city offices. I
remember this building back in the 40′s. Who can supply the
name? As I recall there was an unfinished building structure
with only steel part completed, and abandoned many years
and finially torn down that was to the North of the building.

I worked for a year in that building and never knew its history. Thanks.

Aw Doug, I was going to post your link today!

gosh, what an improvement! i’m so glad someone decided to invest in the building and modernize its dated appearance.
