Thank you for this article. I have been trying to put together a story for my kids about this. Henry Griffing was my great uncle. My grandfather and him were partners until Henry’s death in a plane crash.

Very encouraging to see Americans at work revitalizing cities and investing their time and money to do so. Ron and Deb Smith, two good friends, are just some of those wonderful Americans helping out. Some day I hope to make a long trip from Alaska and see their handywork.

Just a couple of quick corrections that were brought to my attention by Maxine’s grandaughter.

The “Gold” drive-in speaker was actually silver plated. The silver had tarnished in a way that made it appear gold.

Maxine actually passed away in March 2005 – still not very long after closing the business she ran for 74 years!

Frankly, I got to thinking, if Maxine hadn’t kept the Oklahoma Theatre Supply open, there would have been nothing to really earmark the area, hence no district, and the story of the exchange would have been lost. THANKS, Maxine!
