The pavement may not be “decorative” but it’s incredibly functional in that it gives pedestrians a zone across the street that didn’t really exist before. It sends a clear message that pedestrians are valued.

Zach, that’s what I’m getting at. It doesn’t look like any real changes for Main. There is already parking along the street, two-way, and trees. What’s the big deal?

And Matt, yeah I see the people. The first thing you have to realize about planning is that just because a rendering shows that there will be people doesn’t mean there will necessarily be people. You have to critically examine the plans, pick them apart, and determine for yourself if there would actually be a lot of people along there.

What happened to the art features on the corners and the designs on the street surface? Are they totally gone?

Dedicated bike lanes, new landscaping, better sidewalk… Main at this location is actually one of the few streets that is relatively in-line with the plan already. Minor work here compared to elsewhere.

Parking, two way, and narrower streets. That is what will change.

Look at all the pedestrians too, that will be the biggest change.

Aside from bollards, new stoplights, and new non-decorative pavement, I don’t see what we’ve changed.
