Tulsa’s Route 66 Vision

gold01

You’ve got to love what Tulsa has done with their landmark Gold Meadow sign along Route 66 on the outskirt of its downtown. The sign was in jeopardy, but preservations found a new location and rebuilt the sign to its former glory. Besides the milk bottle building on Classen, are there similar restoration opportunities in Oklahoma City?

Steve, I think we have missed those opportunities, especially with signs from Hollie’s Drive-in, and the old Liberty Tower (now City Place) weather beacon

How about the Graffiti bridge on Western, the Biltmore hotel, the “Borden” cows on N Broadway, the Hollies sign, the Split-T. Oh wait, never mind.

The Hollie’s sign lives…. I know where it is.

Hey Steve. worked on this Meadow Gold project several years ago. Going to e-mail you a vintage pic for posting a comparison. It is really a great sign.

The Sunshine Cleaners sign at NW 1st and Classen would be great lit up.

Even though its now been restored – Plaza Court.

Did Plaza Court have more signage on it back in the day?

Yep.

The first (and only thing to date) the Tower Theatre redevelopers have done — restore the vintage neon sign along NW 23rd.

what about the clock on the meadow gold sign? is it deleted, or awaiting re-placement?

bump
