MAPS on the mind…hope it passes. I would really be interested if any outfits are doing exit polling.
I hate big government and despise high taxes, buy voted YES for MAPS3. I was undecided 2 weeks ago, but after reviewing all the history and facts, I connected those little black boxes with my marker this morning. The before and after pictures posted by the blogger “Downtown on the Range” pushed in the YES camp for good. Even though the federal government might be out of control, this was small enough, and kept the money locally for sure, where it was taken from.
I complete agree– vote yes! But I am so glad election day is finally hear. I am so sick of this campaign (and I normally love campaign season)!
Wow, I certainly couldn’t type above.
complete = completely; hear = here. I must need an after-lunch nap….
I decided not to vote because I didn’t like the process the city took on deciding for us on what to vote on really senior citizen swim centers and the fairgrounds convention center are not in the realms I feel for MAPS, but I am for the park, street cars, and trails. I also feel the convention center is a waste of money. It is too expensive! We should recruit a private entity to build a convention center.
I just don’t know how the city is going to deal with each project. Are they going to bid out and get designs for the park and convention center? Are they going to put the convention center where Core to Shore wants it or are they going to think outside the box of Core to Shore and put the convention center between the Blvd and the Mill, which will make it taller, but will spur the mill to be bought by private hotels to develop.
Will the design for the park be the one they showed us or are they going to bid it out and get many different designs from many la firms?
I agree, Matt. But it won’t just be good for the inner city. It will help property values throughout the metro, and attract and keep the quality individuals that we need in our city. Yes for Maps!
I’m nervous, and wish we had some exit polls. Why is the media so quiet on this? I tried to get everyone I knew to get out and vote, and hope i succeeded. It’s hard to think about anything else tonight.
I’m glad my columns on the subject convinced you to vote yes, Steve. Your vote, and anyone else I was able to influence, made up for my physical absence in OKC during this election, although I’ll be arriving for Christmas break next week.
Hey Steve,
What are your thoughts on MAPS 3 today, after you’ve had a night to sleep on it after its passage? Are you hearing anything on who might be on the citizen oversight committee? Will the order in which they work on the projects be determined after the citizen committee is set? When does the mayor plan to have the committee set?
I don’t think it’s incredibly important who is on the oversight committee as long as there is one and the members are empowered to call bs on anything unnecessary. Like why are the sidewalks nearly $800,000 per mile.. for a sidewalk. That’s what a road costs, not a sidewalk. Come on that’s not right.. and we need powerful oversight to make sure we get the most streetcar mileage as we can, and the most convention center space for our buck, as well.

Everyone in OKC, be sure to get out the vote for MAPS 3. It’s important, it’s gonna be scary close, and now’s your chance of a lifetime to vote for a grand vision of what OKC can become. Rarely has such a vision gone to the people of OKC for a vote, so now it’s time to raise the bar. Respond with a yes – to vision, to dreams, to potential .. to OKC.
