Adding Life to Downtown

No flashback today – my work computer crashed and I’ve been busy this weekend with family stuff and preparing for Wednesday’s debut of the “Skirvin” book.

Random thought: 20 years ago the average downtown restaurant was a workday affair, open maybe from 10:30 to 3 p.m. at best.

It’s really nice to have a great shop like Hobby’s Hoagies at Robert S. Kerr and Walker (first floor of the Legacy apartments) open day and night, everyday, serving some of downtown’s best sub sandwiches, pizzas and Italian dishes downtown. The place has a great sense of community – and it’s got character. Think about this for a second and consider how much character and community you find at the average corporate restaurant.

It would be a shame to see a place like this die. For all the multi-million developments around downtown, it’s this sort of shop that gives downtown its life, that is helping restore it as a real neighborhood.

I agree – places like this a key. I was real glad to see Thai Kitchen open back up.

This story makes me hungry…

So, with the tidbit about what a shame it would be to see Hobby’s close, is that a possibility you’re alluding to, or just theorizing? Never know with Steve lol.

Agreed. This place is a great addition to downtown and I need to go back soon…friendly service as well which is what drives me to local places.

(my Captcha says “cootie Chasser” haha)

Nick, there is no reason to believe Hobby’s is about to close. Just consider this post an effort to provide a “moment of clarity” in the heat of the battle. Sorry to be so vague, but it’s the best I can do at this moment.

Steve, Not sure what “battle” you are referring to, but I hope you don’t have inside info about Hobby’s closing.

I just tried Hobby’s a month ago and Hobby’s has great great food! Their New York style pizza and Philly is the best in all of Okc and the quality and service is excellent too.

Alright fair enough. Are we going to see much on the MAPS 3 dogfight or are you laying low right now b/c of MAPS 3?

Hobby’s Hoagies, by all accounts, is doing fine. This post was meant to be a gentle “chill out” to some folks I respect and admire who are getting caught up in the emotion of the moment. I’m sorry this might be confusing some of you – others, however, know very well what’s going on here.

Steve: Maybe those people should head up the street a block and eat Thai. They’d probably be more at home there.

I like this blog, but it is very “cliquey”. I don’t live quite in downtown, but I live in Miller which is close.

What is going on? Email me if you want.
