it is still boring…

I think it is beautiful. I don’t think there is enough exposure to the art here in OK and am glad to see this happening. I think it is boring to those who don’t understand it, but that is just my opinion. I hope the art of ballet thrives in OK!

Liz, please enlighten me. Tell me what I “don’t understand”. Your statement implies that those who do not like ballet are less cultured or somehow less intelligent than those that do. Why can’t the explanation be that I just don’t like it? I am sure there are some things you don’t like and that is fine with me. The difference between us is that I can except our different tastes without implying you are somehow deficient for not agreeing with me.

Just so you know, I hope the ballet thrives in OKC as well. It would be great if they could find support for all of the hard work they have invested in their art. However, the worst way to gain support is to make elitest statements that question the intelligence of those who aren’t currently fans.

oops. I meant “accept” rather than “except”.

Either, you deleted some posts Steve, or Mack’s reaction to what Liz said was over the top. Doesn’t look to me as if she said anything that implied he was less cultured.

Anyways, this is great. Hopefully it draws more people in the future. I like where they are going with the company.

I am happy to see a change – any change is good – with ballet in OKC. glad that the new director is passionate and is bringing in guest artists from big companies. that said, i am not so impressed with the current talent – i think the russian couple is at least in their 40s and i have never seen a ballerina so stiff as that estonian woman. the couple in blue that did the modern piece and that supposedly performed all over the world, seemed to have performed for circus type shows with no hint of polished ballet sophistication. I realize that it will take time to put together a decent company and i will support OKC ballet on this journey.

i’m so proud of our ballet! the new director is building on the work of those who went before him. i will always be mesmerized by the poetic juxtaposition of ballet springing up from this young state on the prairie.

15 years ago I took my 5th grade students to the ballet. I showed them a few basic movements. Before we went I had them stand behind their chairs (so that they could grab it if they became unbalanced) and led them in a few movements with correct foot placement, etc. In just a few minutes they were complaining about how difficult and strenuous the movements were. We did this for ten minutes every morning for the week prior to the performance. The boys especially came to appreciate the training and stamina needed to become a ballet performer.
Outdoor theatre is a wonderful idea.
Thanks, Robert Mills!

That male dancer they keep saying is a new company member works for Oregon Ballet. How can he be employed by two companies? Seems fishy, OKC Ballet.

Michael,
Nope, Steve did not delete any one of my posts. Mack, I was not trying to insult your intelligence nor suggest that you are “less cultured”. I apologize if my statement was confusing. What I meant by not understanding the art is simple. You think it is boring therefor you probably do not understand how one can find ballet intriguing. For example: I don’t “understand” why people enjoy the sport of American football. However, I don’t think that people who do enjoy the sport are less cultured because of this.
