Whole Foods in OKC
Numerous sources are saying Whole Foods will soon be announcing it will be locating in the Classen Curve area.
Time will tell …

I don’t know about that John. Truth is, Whole Foods at NW 63 and Western is a lot closer to downtown than Memorial Road or Edmond. The drive won’t be any worse than to Belle Isle Walmart. The only way this could have been better would have been if Whole Foods were to locate at Grant Humphreys’ proposed project at NW 36 and Walker. Consultants have indicated Whole Foods typically doesn’t start in a new market with an urban store.

Speaking as a downtowner, I’m fine with Whole Foods going in at Classen Curve. Downtown doesn’t have the population yet to support Whole Foods, and really just needs a small grocery. Since Classen Curve is near Penn Square and the Nichols Hills Plaza, as well as Western shops and restaurants, it won’t be that much trouble to pop up there to shop. Also, since some of the demographic which can support Whole Foods is in Edmond, it’s better that it’s a bit closer to Edmond, as well as the Nichols Hills/Crown Heights areas which will undoubtedly provide good customers. I’m just happy we’re getting one, and am hoping Classen Curve can pull in some other national chains like Restoration Hardware and Anthropologie.
No one has yet said the store is going to locate in Classen Curve. Even Steve’s comments read “area.” If AM and CHSPKE are involved, they own plenty of property in the Western Avenue area other than CC.
Don’t they own the properties between Grand and Western and I-44, other than Deep Fork, or at least most of that wedge? I think directly north of Deep Fork would be a great spot–right off the interstate and the back of it could probably have a sign with interstate visibility.
TT is correct. And remember, I’m simply quoting a lot of sources as saying its going to happen – at this point neither Whole Foods or owners of Classen Curve or surrounding properties have been willing to comment. But this deal is getting a lot of buzz – enough that I’m putting it out as a possibility on this blog.
So basically no one knows where this rumor started and it’s taken a life of its own. And congrats, Steve.
Yeah, I thought it would take longer than a week for the news to break. But yes, Steve, some of us do read on the weekends.
Nick, if you’ve followed me for any length of time, you need to ask yourself if I’d base anything on something I saw on TV or a chat board.
(the answer is no)
OK Steve, so this rumor has nothing to do with what people have been saying on OKC Talk for the last 3-4 years? “Oh, this development will get a Whole Foods! No, this development…” and so on.
Because if you’ve followed my train of thought much, you’d have to ask if I’d consider a rumor acknowledged by you as pretty reliable (the answer is yes).
The problem with Classen Curve is it’s too small for a Whole Foods, but it could be added I suppose nearby.
Nick, like Steve said if you follow his posts and news stories, he does not base his posts and stories on rumors from a message board. There have been times in the past when he has in fact “pulled us back” from exuberance about something that was being reported as near-fact, or even announced.
If Steve reports it then there can be no doubt he has independent sources that should have correct information.

“Radar” as another Downtowner, I don’t care where it gets placed as long as we finally get a Whole Foods, while downtown would be nice, CC area/Western Ave. area is still in the inner-city core, and where a lot of the hip yuppies that would support this store live.
Nick – you need to open your eyes more outside your bubble, it blinds you from the obvious sometimes. you are brighter than many of your peers but that doesn’t mean you can’t learn from those around you.
Cliff – actually this “rumor” was started over a year ago on OKCTalk and evidence (including inside sources) kept piling up.
I think all of you are too big box commercial thinkers. You have several great places all around the city providing what a whole foods would owned and operated by people and families in our community. in this same vicinity you have Avalon seafood, Kamps meat market, crescent foods, Beaus wine & Liquour etc. Try getting out and finding these places where you’ll get help with easy recipes & people will remember your name, you dont NEED a Whole Foods!!!!!!!
chef D. YOur comment is far off from and a little bit red necked for people that are into health and nutrition. find me one store here in okc that compares to whole foods where I can get the nutrition that my body craves. I have been a vege and eating mostly organic for over 35 years and have just moved here and am starving so far……………
Quite frankly, I don’t care where the Whole Foods is. I will drive from Norman to anywhere to get amazing, quality food.

Whole Foods Fans are probably smiling right now. But if they go into Classen Curve, the Downtowners will be upset.
As far as Classen Curve goes, the location is good in that it is centrally located near a majority of the affluent area of the city. I see people from Heritage Hills to Crown Heights to Wileman’s to Nichols Hill to Quail Creek shopping there.
