Scoop: Mayor Mick Addresses "Sharkgate."
Hard-hitting journalism, my friends, that’s what it’s all about. I put all my journalistic skills to test to get an exclusive on the Jessica Alba story today (I called Mayor Mick Cornett’s aide, David Holt and sent a message out on Twitter) seeking to nail our leader down for a comment on this breaking news story.
Here’s Cornett’s take on “Sharkgate”:
“As thrilled as I am to have Jessica Alba spend the summer in Oklahoma City, she is becoming very high maintenance.”
I know, I know … couldn’t I nail the mayor any further on this issue? You bet.
So I emailed the mayor back: “Would you encourage her to attend deadCENTER as a way to make amends?”
And his response? “I encourage everyone to attend. She is very welcome.”
Yep, you heard it here first. Sad to say, however, that the option of me getting my photo taken with Jessica appears to be losing in the poll.

[...] Alba’s statement, in which she apologizes for the incident, can be found here. The Oklahoman’s Steve Lackmeyer talked to Mayor Mick Cornett about the incident; that information can be found here. [...]
Oh leave her alone! Until I see action taken against gangbangers that tag everything in sight, OkC doesn’t need to look like a backwater.

No matter high profile a person is, they should have to face the same consequences for their deviant actions as the rest of us. If Oklahoma City lets her off the hook, it will be a travesty of justice. She should be treated just like everyone else. I was thinking about seeing this movie when it comes out but if these actors and actresses have this kind of attitude, I think I will pass on this movie and not waste my money.
Jessica has come up a notch in my book since the appology, it had the right tone and acknoledgment.
And who cares?…obviously you or you wouldn’t be reading this stuff??
Remember this is the home of Toby Keith and his kind of ideaology. We are not hollywood infested liberals and I’m enormously proud to be from OK and able to say take the hollywood mentality somewhere else with a boot in that place Toby speaks of. You’re welcome to come visit and we will treat you with respect if you treat us with respect, but we are not programmable or influenced by liberalism!! If you’re embarresed to be here?…well there are two major highways that lead out of here!
Thanks again Jessica the appology was definately more classy!
Wow hollywoodimmuned you’re exactly why Oklahoma is playing catch up with the rest of the big cities..keep up that mentality and maybe we’ll be able to keep other industries from moving in that could better our economy and provide jobs…i.e. Disney (good job on that one – that really could have hurt Oklahoma). Not everything is going to come packaged in your perfect Oklahoma shaped box…as a state we have to become more welcoming of the progressive and realize the benefits before we cast them out without recognition
I’ve lived everywhere from NYC to Seattle and in between. I’m live here for a reason, I don’t want to be liberal, I don’t want to be 360 degrees from what our republic was founded on. I’m very happy in my redneck little world and I assure you there is no one more diversed, traveled or knowledgable. I CHOOSE TO NOT BE LIKE EVERYONE ELSE FOR A REASON!! Thank you for the compliment. Our economy is progressing just fine in case you haven’t read lately, better then all the others you seem to envy. By-the-way we have bus, train and plane service should you choose.
Exactly, having to fight for indendence from imposing government and point of views. I could care less if anyone shared my opinion, just want the right to have it, speak it and not be crusified for it!!
Fair is fair. She apologized and will probably make a donation to united way (let’s see if she’ll match Devon’s or Chesapeake’s!). I think we’d all forget it if she spent an oklahoma June or July weekend scraping those posters off the walls and adding a layer of paint. That’s what we do to taggers.
Rob, I agree with you 100%!!! She should be out there cleaning up the mess that she created. Why should some other hard working man/woman be stuck cleaning up for her at the city’s expense…which by the way is partly the tax payer’s money…so we are paying for Ms. Alba’s “Lack of Judgment.” Hmm..doesn’t sound fair to allow her to take away from our city’s financial funds. If I had done what she did and then gloated about it by posting pictures on the internet I am certain that I would be the recipient of a felony charge! No one would be defending me and saying I added art to our “boring” city. Besides all it takes is one allowance…if she can do it with pardon…it will create a domino effect with everyone in the city who has a “cause” that they believe it. Is that what you want to look at when we have contributed so much of our tax money for beautification of our city?
If everyone affected in the city doesn’t file charges it just shows the nation what a push over the state of Oklahoma is. We feel soo special that we have a celebrity in our state that we allow them to deface our city. Talk about a lack of judgment.
I’ve since learned that the City doesn’t even own those utility boxes, they are OG&E property. If so then shouldn’t we the taxpayers be more concerned about why we are spending tax money to remove the posters from OG&E property? Shouldn’t OG&E be removing them if they were too concerned about it? Ironically, neither OG&E nor United Way is pressing charges (the victims), yet the City is concidering pressing charges. OKC way to take two steps back…..we’re major league crybabies on this one.
People who think so highly of Jessica and other celebrities like her should realize that a lot of them could care less about Oklahoma. They think we are a bunch of hillbillies and part of the fly over states. Nothing we could ever do will impress them or make them like us. We stand for values and morals and other things this country was founded on and celebrities like Jessica just laugh at us and wouldn’t give us the time of day. Wake up people. Jessica is pretty, but like a lot of other celebrities, she is just plain dumb, naive, silly, and childish. I have no plans on spending my money to go see this movie. And that goes for a lot of other movies from hollywood as well.
Well, that’s one way at looking at things. I’m not quite sure you can paint all celebrities with that brush. By doing so, are you guilty of the same prejudice you’re alleging against Alba and all celebrities?
A lot of celebrities came to our aid after the bombing. Some celebrities come every year to do fundraising for area charities….

Was he serious? Was he laughing when he said that?
