Oh Jessica….
Check out the latest video in the right side of this blog and you’ll see a discussion between David Morris and I about Jessica Alba and Sharkgate and her apology.
What kills me is this: while we were doing the video, just a few blocks away along Film Row our guest was filming another movie scene with Casey Affleck. I learned about this just an hour after it was over.
Doh!

Am I the only one who thinks this is much ado about nothing? Stuff like this happens in major cities. Get used to it.
Colin, you’re not the only one. I spend a good deal of time in LA and this is par for the course there. It would be considered part of the collective expression. It’s news here, but in LA and NY it’s art. Not saying whether it’s right or wrong, just saying that she probably wasn’t thinking that it was wrong when she did it.
No big deal, the placement on the UW billboard was in questionable taste but the rest only adds a little visual interstest to otherwise unsightly green boxes…..right?
I agree with the others, all this is much ado about nothing. I see it as art and the city should too. It just goes to show we aren’t “major league” yet. We should just let it fly, it just makes us look like a bunch of crybabies on national TV. We need more public art throughout our city and those boxes are an eyesore. The only exception should be the United Way billboard and it looks like she is making amends and working towards a resolution on that front. I agree, this is not that newsworthy and the City should get over the inferiority complex and accept public art such as this. This just goes to show again the need for public art spaces and public graffiti walls.
Hey! Look at us we’re a big city now!! NBA WooHoo!!…too bad we don’t act like it…you mess with our stuff we’ll run you out of town…Oklahoma at it’s finest; too bad at our finest were a joke to everyone else. I love this city but we have so far to go and so much ego (mistaken for pride) to overcome.
I think this shows a need for more public space for posting information downtown. Large community bulletin boards, etc.

FYI–the “White Mike” site has posted a “To the People of Oklahoma City” blog where he tries to say why he placed his posters here with the help of one Jessica Alba. But he doesn’t address why he thinks vandalism is the way to go about raising awareness for sharks. Apparently he misjudged his audience here in OK. To paraphrase some tv shows (hopefully that will help with our LA friends)…we don’t go in for that sort of thing here in OKC.
He says there is a dire need to stop shark killing and “International pressure is the only way to do it and that starts in Oklahoma, the heartland of America.” Hmm, I had no idea Oklahoma was considered “international,” but maybe to those in LA and the coasts we are very much a foreign land.
I love sharks as much as the next guy, and if there is anywhere in the state of Oklahoma that serves shark fin soup I’ll be sure to stay away from ordering it. There…will that make “White Mike” happy? Anyway, this is a fun diversion and all, but hopefully we can get back to real Oklahoma problems and issues soon.
