I Should Have Called in the Reinforcements
Attention Jan, Rob, Chad, Casey and Blair … if you’re interested in subbing again, let me know. I thought I could keep up with this latest batch of days off. I was terribly wrong.
Now, that having been said … what’s with the conspiracy against downtown today? Travel south on Broadway Extension and you’ll hit 30 minutes of delays caused by poor warning of the highway narrowing to one lane and then almost no notice of the NW 23 exit being closed. So after going through this traffic nightmare for 30 minutes, if you’re wanting to head to a place like Cuppies and Joe, you have to get off at 10th street. But if you think you’re going to take a left westbound from Broadway, think again. While ODOT has made a mess on Broadway Extension, OKC is once again redoing Broadway and NW 23 and prohibiting a left turn there.
This, my friends, is poor timing. I could also point out the Broadway and NW 23 job involves a contractor that some say is too successful at submitting the “low bid.” Does the lowest bid also equal best quality? I’ll leave that judgment to others.

It’s ODOT’s revenge. It’s how they are letting you know they are watching you, especially regarding the Boulevard post.
You’re on Jeff. I’ll be gone and off-line much of tomorrow, but you know how to email me. The thoughts of a “demon of sprawl” on downtown coming up!
(And I’m definitely looking forward to this!) For those who don’t know, I think Jeff is a great guy, I’ve had coffee with him, and he’s got some interesting thoughts about this city’s future and the baggage we carry from our past.
I think Jeff should write something about culs-de-sac. Serious – he’s taken an interesting picture as evidence of some things to ponder…
I trust Jeff to write up something interesting. I’m off and looking forward to finally catching the latest Star Trek movie tomorrow.
Ha ha, I tweeted this on May 29 at 8:29 p.m. “Lake hefner pkwy North bound down to one lane for construction. Don’t take I-235 North bound either, one-lane construction. Just stay home”
I was pretty annoyed too, Steve.

Mhmm. Went out to the north side last night to a party. [Wewt]
And we take the Broadway extension and get off at 23rd. No hick ups. And I was aware of Broadway and 23rd. They’ve been working on that for a decent amount of time for you not to be surprised by it. But by the time I leave the party and heading back to the south side, the Extension is lined with cones and there were night workers everywhere! They even had cops there alerting drivers of the construction zone at night. At one point in the drive, merging on to 35, the cones push the cars all the way onto the shoulder and it’s scary when you’re pushed to the shoulder of a curving highway going 60 miles per hour with 2 feet clearance.
I thought it was ridiculous.
