And I'm pretty sure the second floor has to be accesible as well if it is a public accomodation. But I could be wrong too...

Yeah, I could be wrong too, but I'm pretty sure as long as the first floor is handicap accessible, it doesn't matter about the second floor. They could and should use the stairs and use the second floor. Seems like a LARGE waste of space as Abuelo's is soooo open. I agree with Brian about the elevator comment.

Maybe my last comment comes across more negative than I intended. Abuelo's should be commended for their commitment to the district. They do an excellent job. But they've made a 30 year commitment to that building-- with a second floor just asking for seating-- and an elevator is what is holding them back?

I've been in restaurants in other cities with multiple floors and no elevator. Why can't that be done in here? They could just open it up on the busiest nights; or only for special events. Not enough business to support the additional seats and expense is a reasonable response; no elevator is not, IMO.

But if an elevator is their criteria, then too bad they negociated a new 15 year lease (for a total of 30 years) without getting the owner to install an elevator.

They don't have an elevator to get up there, those are really expensive.
They are also adding some extra lighting on the outside of their building, which will really make it stand out after dark. Ranier Bacca is the GM there and has been for a long time. With his experience, Abuelos is always prepared for big events in Bricktown. They are one of the examples of how to run a great restaurant in Bricktown.

I sure wish they would start using the upstairs. It's a great atmosphere already, but would be even better with tables and chairs looking over the balcony.
