It was an excellent move to bring Speck to OKC- sure, many things he is telling us are basically common sense, but I feel that hearing it from an expert will be a powerful impetus. It’s clear that he spent a lot of time familiarizing himself with the city. And to find that many of our problems can be solved with simple striping adjustments… We could theoretically have many of these changes done within a year.
That bridge with the buildings on it is really cool.
Watching videos like this only perpetuates my inferiority complex (why don’t I just move to New York?). I wish I had more confidence that these recommended changes would be put in place in a timely manner. The fact that they hired the consultant in the first place is a positive sign. But it also takes dollars to make these ideas work for us.
Thanks for posting this Steve! Agree with Shane, he clearly took some time to get to know the city and as a result his suggestions really ring true. I can’t find fault in a single recommendation. Also, give Mayor Cornett credit for bringing him here and letting him tell it how it is. Thanks Mayor!
I am sure public works is eager to get started with the implementation of these ideas
Kris, think of it this way:
You say you that by watching the revolution for change, it makes you feel inferior that the change hasn’t fully taken place yet. And yet imagine your pride if you partake in a revolution that is successfully carried out.
New York City today is the result, to some degree, of a revolution that took place between Jane Jacobs and Robert Moses. Yes… there was a reason I asked all of you to watch those videos.
If you haven’t please go back and do so!

Great video, hopefully the city will take his recommendations seriously and fix many of the problems in this city.
