Storm Clouds Continue to Move In
We’ve been watching the economic storm move across the country and so far Oklahoma City hasn’t been hit nearly as hard. But it’s definitely time to get out the umbrellas and raincoats.
I don’t know who Taylor83 is at www.okctalk.com. But a look at his or her comment today on reported lay-offs at SandRidge Energy downtown is cause for concern when you look at Taylor83’s prior posts on living at The Montgomery, dining at downtown restaurants and browsing various condo projects.
Here’s what Taylor83 said today:
“The layoffs started on Monday and last through this Friday 4/3. I was notified Wednesday that I’m no longer employed with SandRidge and I was escorted out immediately. The positions that were layed off are high paying, full-time, professional positions through the whole corporate headquarters in OKC. They recruited heavily for these positions last spring and summer from all over the country. It’s not pretty.”

It was bound to hit us in the energy industry with the plummet in oil and gas prices. A client in Western OK informed me last week of massive layoffs in the drilling industry, including her husband. We can only be glad that we are not as reliant on the energy industry as we were in the early 1980’s.
When I last checked, OK had the seventh lowest unemployment in the country. I know it will get worse, but I don’t think as bad as many states. We can be grateful for the strong agriculture and health industries.

They are going to layoff between 75 and 100 people. Chesapeake has been laying off people since February. A few in every department every other week. They are trying to stay under the radar.
