I personally know of developers who are actively looking into projects on the vacant land surrounding the proposed extension. It is real and it is happening as we speak.

More information on the Classen drive extension can be found here:

http://www.okc.gov/planning/planning_library/urban_design/okc%20downtown%20streetscape%20master%20plan%20final.pdf

But what about the other end of the street? Classen drive currently dead-ends where Classen Blvd. intersects with NW 16th, next to Mesta Park. I propose that Classen drive be re-connected to Classen Blvd.

There is currently a quasi-district in that area and such a connection could provide the stimulus to create a type of Town Center. This could be an important corridor for streetcar/LRT from the CBD to Midtown to Classen Town Center and beyond (and possibly the Plaza District). It would also create a pedestrian throughfare from the CBD to Midtown to Classen Town Center to the Plaza District.

Here is a sketch of what I am thinking: http://i153.photobucket.com/albums/s225/CuatrodeMayo/fdcebdaa.jpg

The bottom line is that Classen drive is a dramatically under-used inner-city street that has great potential.
