Say What? MAPS Destroyed Downtown???
Sometimes you’ve got to wonder about the folks posting comments on stories at NewsOk. On today’s story about Jeff Speck’s recommendations to make downtown more walkable we see the following comment:
The streets were designed before MAPS destroyed Downtown and caused a mass exodus to the suburbs. It seems our ‘improvements’ always result in a need for more ‘improvement’. Perhaps research into the domino effect of these changes would result in better and more far reaching plans requiring less remedial action.

Wow. Sounds like Arlie needs to get out of MWC at least once a decade. I suppose she is happy with the status quo and the decaying city OKC used to be pre-MAPS. Maybe we should spend the next Maps for a giant Luby’s or Furr’s in MWC?
I tend to ignore the comments on general stories any of the newspaper sites. They tend to be the most idiotic and uninformed comments of all the various forms of interactive websites.
I fail to see how she said MAPS destroyed downtown, if I understand what she said, she said that the bad street policy destroyed downtown, making MAPS necessary, if we would plan and think things through (street policy) we wouldn’t have to have programs to fix them (MAPS).
That is what I got from that paragraph.
Addition:
I think she meant to say:
“The streets THAT were designed before MAPS destroyed Downtown and caused a mass exodus to the suburbs.”

Maybe Arlie meant Urban Renewal and not MAPS. But, even if that is the case, Urban Renewal (or MAPS for that matter) did not cause the exodus to the suburbs. That was well underway already.
