SoSA/Cottage District: Here We Go Again
So who will be absent at tomorrow’s Board of Adjustment meeting as it hears, again, the appeal by Randy Floyd to overturn approval of the Lovallo residence by the Urban Design Committee (see previous posts starting with this one).
The meeting is at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.
Dennis Wells, who is on the other side of this fight, won’t be at the meeting. But he’s teasing yet another project coming to the neighborhood on his website, www.freesosa.com.

Brian, I agree. I actually live/own in the neighborhood and would LOVE to see more modern homes and the City and planning committees be a little more open minded on this issue.
I still would like to see Randy Floyd state her true motives for the opposition. I can respect a difference of opinion, but so far, haven’t heard on why she is opposing it other than “setback requirements”.
Steven poses an important questing regarding motivation for the obstructionist tactics. So far the only clue was offered in Michael Smith’s post during the previous edition of this subject: “…that setback pattern was important; important enough to future redevelopment to defend.”
In other words: Because that’s the way it was in the past, we should maintain it in the future. That seems to be the only logic guiding their counter-progressive actions. BUT, the neighborhood is not an historic district. It was DENIED historic status because it did not have the qualifying attributes. Look around… it’s never going to be an historic neighborhood!
That leads me to believe that the motivation is irrational. I’d love to learn otherwise, because then we’d be able to address the issue with logic and reason instead of just wasting everyone’s time and money.
Let’s hope that the Board of Adjustment is wearing their logic-hat this afternoon!
Not sure, I can’t take off work, so I know I won’t be there and heard Dennis won’t. Keep us informed Steve!

If there is something Oklahoma City is lacking architecturally, it is modern homes. I fully support any and all modern homes built and proposed to date in this very eclectic neighborhood. Randy Floyd needs to stop wasting time prohibiting progress.
