It's a Done Deal
Well, at least the building is. The video screen will be considered at another time. More in tomorrow’s paper.

If they can develop the front plaza into a “people space” rather than dead space, that will be good. Perhaps incorporate a large fountain like we have been discussing.
Well dang I don’t know why the video board is such a big deal if they can build an office in Memorial Road style. I like the video board. It’s neat. And if they’re going to have a plaza there we better have something to look at from the plaza.
I’s like to see the rendering from another angle, but I must admit the design is pretty attractive. I wholeheartedly agree that the plaza area should be far more interactive than what is shown here–benches and a fountain would help a lot.
I don’t mind the idea of the video screen, as long as whatever’s being displayed on it is up to snuff. I’d hate to see a bunch of poorly designed promotional videos or graphics up there. Given the pathetic attempt at an NBA logo, I don’t have a lot of confidence that our city leaders have an eye for graphic design aesthetics. It would be a shame to ugly up that building with a bunch of clip art and comic sans fonts.
^^ Actually the Chamber, Convention Bureau, and state tourism board produce some really beautiful, really cutting edge designs and videos. I really love most of the ads that I’ve seen from them.
I very much like the Chamber’s proposal, video especially. I agree with Shane … the Chamber has put together some impressive videos.
I heard the fountain was cut as one of the features cut to save the Chamber money. If anything the video board is the best feature this place has going for it. It will help make the building more urban and interactive, but they need to go all out and do it right, not water down an okay Memorial Rd. type project. I’ve heard from insiders and it seems like it may get watered down further. I think we really need to be careful, when people like Anthony McDermid start speaking out against something like this, we should at least listen. Caveat Emptor OKC!
So, you said there would be a story in “tomorrow’s paper”. Where is it? I can’t find it in Saturday or Sunday, and I can’t find it online….

Sounds good, we need more symbolic, modern buildings here. This would reflect the direction we are headed hopefully.
