This picture is floating around the Internet today. The moving vans for the “unnamed” OKC NBA team arrived downtown yesterday, and an official name announcement is expected this week.

Not to mention it’s off-centered. I sure hope this was some middle-schoolers photoshop project and not the teams real logo.
The OKC Thunder sounds like a WNBA name. Think about this…the NBA has names like:
Celtics
76ers
Knicks
Bulls
Cavs
Mavericks
Spurs
On the other hand, the WNBA has:
Dream
Sky
Sun
Shock
Fever
Liberty
Storm
Comets
Clay and his boys should have told whoever came up with this name to try again.

and don’t forget the ever intimidating Wizards and Bobcats! Everybody at the beginning thinks a new name and new logo are weird. Thats because our consumerist brains need time to orient to something new that we personally didn’t pick out. Remember the dustup over OSU’s Flame logo a couple of years back? After a while everybody adjusted and it was fine. Same with this. After a time everybody will adjust and like it just fine. Especially if they start winning. The most important thing about the logo for us is not what it looks like but what it says “OKC”!
I don’t get all the negativity with Clay Bennet and the new team.
We’re a big league city with a little league name. That logo sucks the name is alright but it could have been better. I’m disappointed and I think alot of people in Okc feels the same way! I know the players are not pleased with that name or logo! IT SUCKS BIG TIME! Mr. Bennet needs to change it asap. Even the Sonics sound better than that. It’s to plain for our city, we’re the new OKC & we need something that will catch people eyes and make them want to buy the teams jersey because I aint buying that crap!
What is with all the anger over the name? You don’t like it, fine, but tell me what you wanted to name the team and I’ll find just as many people (if not more) who hate that name too. You tell me the name “Lakers” is better? Or Pistons–a car part (how about Detroit Mufflers)? Sonics was better?? That was just a speed level. You liked it, because you were used to it. In a few years Thunder will sound as normal as Celtics…who are, by the way, just an pseudo-ethnic group in England–might as well be the Boston Haberdashers. Get over it, support the team. Sheesh.
Everybody knows and have known for a while now. Let’s stop the games and just announce it already! If Clay wanted a “big” announcement, he ain’t getting it.
