I can't wait to see who will bid on this project. Dallas just started the high-rise business again here a few years back with the W-Hotel. The Barcelona chairs look swank. Seriously though, orange bean bag chairs would be much better.

Jan, I'm sitting here reading your post, and at first, I'm clueless as to what you're talking about. Then I think again about the images posted. Big, big laugh.
Thank you!

It's interesting that none of these drawings give you a clear picture of what the development will look like to the pedestrian passing by on the street.

Predictions: 1. The park will be busy at lunchtime on nice days and empty at other times. 2. No one will sit in the atrium longer than it takes to tie a shoe and move on. 3. No one will be walking on that sidewalk at night, between a closed-to-the-public Devon Tower and a closed Myriad Gardens.

How people respond to different spaces is programmed deep in human nature, but too many architects choose to ignore that programming in favor of building something that makes a big visual impact.

You can have big and impressive while incorporating spaces scaled for the comfort of human beings, but this isn't it.

I'd encourage people to visit the website of the Project for Public Spaces to get a sense of what elements contribute to places where people want to linger and enjoy. Christopher Alexander's Pattern Language is another useful way of understanding the way time-tested architectural and spatial elements work with human nature.
