Good news. Dawn Welch hired a preservationist who started work on the Rock Cafe right after Thanksgiving. The goal is to keep it on the National Register of Historic Places and to reopen in May 2009, one year after the fire. David Burke Historic Preservation out of Perry, OK, has stabilized the walls, repointed and replastered the rocks, made new trusses for the roof, and installed new heating, air and plumbing. Follow the progress in photos at davidshistoricpreservation.com or at Dawn's blog rockcafert66.wordpress.com. A lot has been done and much more is coming!
