Welcome!

Starting Monday, find out more about downtown and get the inside edge on what’s going to happen next at OKC Central.

OKC Central will also welcome commentary readers, and will showcase photos and videos by visitors. OKC Central will be your site for what’s happening in downtown Oklahoma City.

Good luck Steve! Great idea!

I would suggest that the geographic area include OKHSC, Deep Deuce and Bricktown on the east . . down to the south side of the river . . . Classen on the west and 13th Street on the north.

As far as content, that’s pretty much a moving target it seems to me depending on what’s interesting and happening at any given time . . . development one day, new business opening . . . old business closing the next day . . . street life . . . art and culture . . . gatherings of all sort . . . the IIDA is having a tour of the Red Pin on Thursday evening 6-8 . . . maybe someone knowledgable about food would do an occassional genuine restaurant review rather than the pablum we get now. . . more of an inside & people oriented approach to looking at downtown events like Spring Arts Festiveal, deadCENTER film festival . . . reviews of downtown businesses that take a close look at what goods and services they offer and a little bit of a look at the people that own them . . . Earl Neighbors at Java Daves, Teena Hicks at her store . . . the guy that shines shoes in Leadership Square . . Ken and his wife at the Asian Buffet in First National Center . . . there’s tons of stuff to talk about . . .

All the best Steve and good luck with your new venture.

Glad you got this rolling! I’m sure that it will quickly become an Okc “must” on a daily basis! Like ODTG said, all the best!

Thanks guys! ODTG, those are great ideas. And yes, I’m familiar with the shoeshine guy at Leadership Square. He plays some great jazz from that boombox. I’m going to keep some loose definitions of the area covered by this blog – definitely all the innercity districts, and most likely I’ll venture outside the city when its relevant.
By the way – the IIDA – are you referring to the International Downtown Association or something else?
-Steve

No Steve, the International Interior Design Association is the professional organization that was sponsoring the small gathering of interior designers and vendors to have a look at the Red Pin project.

The space was a difficult fit for the bowling alley/restaurant tenant but the design team did an excellent job of shoe-horning in all of the mechanical and sprinkler systems. The interior design, finish and materials selections were done by Cynthia Harrison and Bethany Jackson of Tandem Design. David Wanzer and Ken Fitzsimmons also worked on the architectural portion of the project. Monty Jacobs was the general contractor.

I did see Jeff Bezdeck at a table with six or seven folks, so perhaps the Downtown Neighborhood Association was having a meeting there as well.

Red Pin is a fun spot . . . nice bar and a decent restaurant. I don’t bowl, but I think their lanes get plenty of use . . . six or seven of the ten were going strong this evening. The pin setting equipment is very interesting and requires a full time mechanic to keep it working properly.
