The (almost) $6 million man
Nothing will bring you down faster than figuring out it will take you multiple lifetimes to earn what OU coach Bob Stoops will earn this year. His total package amounts to $5.75 million in 2008, although he could earn more if he hits certain bonuses during the 2008 season.
So, if you’ve got some anti-depressants handy, why not check out our Bob Stoops Salary Calculator here at NewsOK.com.
Just enter your annual salary–to the nearest thousand–and see what Stoops earns for each year, month, week, day and hour compared to you. The calculator will also let you know how many years you’ll have to work to earn what Stoops will make this year.
For some added comparison, why not enter OU President David Boren’s salary (about $373,000 this year) or Gov. Brad Henry’s ($140,000) and see how they stack up next to Stoops?

I think it is a disgrace that a college football coach receives such a salary. It just shows you the priorities of our country!! I am a professional nurse and I can’t afford to even attend the games. Our education system is a disgrace, why don’t they give our wonderful teachers a big bonus? I would like to know where the money is coming from and who approves this? Margaret Gormley
My son attends OU. He has worked hard all his school years to earn a scholarship based on his grades to be able to attend OU. Now will his tuition go up above what his scholarships allows? What if it goes up more than we can afford to supplement? Is football more important than scholars? Where will this money come from? Maybe these are things the public needs to hear and be informed of.
Bob Stoops salary is not only ridiculous, it is obscene! Bob Stoops is a football coach for heaven sake, not the person who discovers a cure for cancer or heart disease or AIDS…he is also not God! If I were him I would be humiliated to see this article posted all over the front pages of the news. Why should a football coach receive more in compensation than the governor, the president of the university or even the President of the United States? What has happened to our priorities? How many kids could be fed, clothed or given the chance to attend college on this money? This is a state college…OUR tax dollars are paying this! Why do we allow it to happen????????????????????? I understand that many will say “his salary is subsidized by ticket sales”. Why are tickets so expensive? To pay his salary! I mean, come on, it is a viscious circle driven by the cost of astronomical salaries.
I can rant all day, but it won’t change a thing. Bob Stoops will still be able to afford gas when I can’t; food when I can’t; rent when I can’t and college educations for his kids. BTW…I think they can attend free of charge…go figure.
I agree with all the above…Jana you hit the nail on teh head!!
To bad they don’t pay the teachers and professors this. Maybe OKlahoma wouldn’t be 48th in the nation if they put a little more money where it should be. Just RIDICULOUS!! I would be ashamed for anyone to find out! If OU thinks that is where they need to put the money, they are sorely mistaken. College is about ACADEMICS…not FOOTBALL. Now we know where the priorities are.
You people are kidding, right??? You do know his salary comes from the revenue generated by the Athletic Dept. Not a dime of tax payer money! Do you whine about the money other entertainers make? Why not? Why is it ok for actors to make millions a year but not coaches? Again his salary is NOT paid for by your tax dollars! If OU wasn’t willing to pay him this way you can bet there are lots of other universities that would be happy to pick up his salary and services.
Waaaa Waaaa they keep raising the ticket prices…. do you blame them, you people still LINE up to buy them. I can afford the tickets, I just choose not to go because I have better things to spend my money on. I also agree with the first posters thoughts, the Gaylords are making a lot more $$ than they should for being the ones responsible for the Daily Jokelahoman.

What a ridiculous, ridiculous piece of journalism this is. Why don’t you publish the salaries of the Gaylord family members. Would take even more lifetimes.
