Devonn,
You can get a copy of your Uncle's military service record by visiting the National Archives and Records Administration website at http://www.archives.gov/veterans/
As a family member, you will be allowed to request a copy of his records. JaRena requested a copy of his records through the Freedom Of Information Act. Once you get a copy, you will have proof that he was not a colonel, but in fact was a Private First Class who served only during World War II as JaRena quoted in her newspaper article of 29 June 2007...which also retracted her story on him she did in the 4 May 2007 printing. Setting the record straight for you and your family is important, no matter how painful it may be. You are doing the right thing!

Ja Rena,

I am Troy's nephew. He was my mother's brother. I am one of many that wrote you after your article was published. Last week Uncle Troy passed away on November 11. In the above, you simply state that he was not Col B. You did not make known his true service record or rank. He was given military honors and I am told that his marker will reflect the rank of Colonel unless other documentation provers other wise. I don't understand this since I had to provide discharge papers for my father when he died. None the less, I am only seeking the truth. I plead with you to provide his true military service rank or provide information on how to obtain this. I believe that his family, grand children and great grand children are entitled to the truth as well as all the men and women who have served our nation's military. All the information that I have found in family records indicate his rank as Private. My mother loved her brother very much in spite of his apparent deceit. I pray that he made his peace with God and that he now lies at rest. I in no way am trying to degrade the dead. I am only asking for the truth for his family.

Respectfully,
Devonn Rider

Ja'Rena,

I was one of the many who sent you concerns about "Col Brodrick".

I have since misplaced the original article of May 4, 2007.

As a big favor, can you send me a copy of the article? I would greatly appreciate it.
