We launched a new mobile site this weekend for all mobile platforms.

Now, NewsOK on your mobile device (including an iPhone, Blackberry, Palm Pre or any other device) is enhanced to make the experience better.

I carry a Blackberry Curve, and I love the new site, especially in comparison to the way we delivered articles to that device in the past. I can quickly see what the top stories are, plus scroll to see an entire list of articles in many different channels of content.

The site is still in Beta. We are still planning some improvements to the site, but here is the initial feedback (via twitter) we received on the day we launched – Friday, Sept. 21.

lovin it – much improved!

Thanks!

Awesome, I like it!

We like it, too.

Works great on Google phone. Needs a political or capitol tab

Good idea. I don’t see why we can’t add that.

colors are hard to read. headlines take up too much room. go back to the old one.

Talk about a buzz kill.

Looks good to me. I like the photos displayed with story menu. And it loaded fast on my iPhone.

That’s my favorite feature, as well.

great new site!

Glad you like it.

The new @NewsOK mobile website is usable! Good job guys!

Usable. Generally the nicest thing you can say about a mobile site.

Well done. I like it.

Thanks!

looks good to me!

We very much appreciate the exclamation points.

Thank you so much! I hated the way the old site truncated article titles. BTW you have a problem w/ image resizing on new site.

Hopefully, the image problem is a result of your browser caching.

looks good on my blackberry bold

Yeah for other Blackberry users.

During this past weekend’s Club H.O.G. rally in Bricktown, we launched our partnership with Share it Live, a photo-sharing application developed by visionaries working the OPUBCO Communications Group Audience Development department.

During this past weekend’s Club H.O.G. rally in Bricktown, we launched our partnership with Share it Live, a photo-sharing application developed by visionaries working the OPUBCO Communications Group Audience Development department.

It’s an iPhone application with a unique slogan – “a new era in citizen journalism.”

The partnership last week was a success. Developers who focus on NewsOK built used the Share it Live API to build a customized area on the NewsOK hog rally coverage page. We received dozens of photos from the event.

Now we’re going to try the same thing on a wider scale – the Fourth of July.

Here’s our thinking. The Club H.O.G. rally was in specific locations in Oklahoma City. But the Fourth of July happens everywhere.

It doesn’t matter how you are celebrating.

A cookout at home? Share it Live.

A parade? Share it Live.

Going to a fireworks show? Share it Live.

If it’s happening on July 4 (or July 3, for that matter …. oh, heck, we’ll take photos from July 1 and 2, as well), please share it on NewsOK. You can upload through the iPhone application or you can simply upload through NewsOK’s Fourth of July page.

I wasn’t at the Club H.O.G. rally, so I couldn’t Share it live. But come Saturday, I have no excuse. I will be Sharing it Live – I promise.

Chuck posted a question as a comment on a blog I had a couple of days ago about our Readers’ Choice nomination page on NewsOK.com.

Why can’t I vote using my iphone? Can you help?

Actually, I think I can help. Sorry it took me a day or so, but I had to thoroughly investigate the problem (OK … I had to ask someone smarter than me).

The page actually does work on an iPhone, but if you clicked to it from my blog or from an e-mail or another location, it likely redirected you to our iPhone site – http://iphone.newsok.com/readerschoice – because we recognize the device and try to take you to the proper location.

That failed. The page doesn’t work, but you already knew that.

I recommend going to our page on the iPhone and selecting the link on the bottom to “View Classic NewsOK.com.” From there, you can easily visit http://www.newsok.com/readerschoice and use the forms.

That’s not the best solution for iPhone users — we know that. We actually hope to improve special pages like this on our iPhone site in the coming months as a renewed focus is placed on our mobile products.

Thank you for pointing out the need for improved interaction on the mobile products on pages like that. I hope you can get on there and nominate your favorites.

I made the newspaper this week. I believe it’s the first time I’ve ever been quoted in the Business section of The Oklahoman.

See the story here.

The story is about Twitter and how local companies are using the tool to improve communications with customers and other interested parties. We have some success stories along those line, so that’s why I was used as a source.

“We have found it especially useful as a tool during breaking news events. We are able to deliver information to our readers via Twitter immediately while allowing them to participate in real-time conversations on NewsOK.com.”

I’m no Twitter guru (that’s our multimedia editor Mike Koehler – @mkokc). I simply no how to post some things and follow some people. And I like to use Twitter as proof that I attend events like the Western Heritage Awards at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

If you want to follow more Twitter users at OPUBCO Communications Group, get a full list here. You’ll see more names as we grow.

We are mere days away from the start of the NCAA Tournament.

You know … the day that your co-workers mysteriously disappear from the office, take looooooong lunches or are on “vacation.”

Side note: I will be out of the office on Thursday and Friday, but it’s a legitimate family trip to the sports ba – er …. I mean …. Arkansas. Really. I know people in Arkansas. It’ll be good to see them.

But you can see all the coverage on NewsOK.com’s NCAA Tournament coverage page. The coverage is brought to you by Nissan, which is why we have such cool content. We have every thing you will need:

The national stories

Printable brackets

In-depth coverage of the local teams (OU men, OU women and OSU men)

Contests

Live scores

Live chats during the OU and OSU games

Blogs

Video highlights

You can also find the latest local stories on you mobile device, the iPhone or the traditional mobile site. That’s what I’ll be using as I drive and visit in …. Arkansas.

Second Side note: If I see any basketball on the TV while in Arkansas, it will be a mere fortunate coincidence. No lie.
