Ally?? Ha! They screwed that description up when their air forces bombed us at Pearl Harbor in the early morning light, so I truly don't see how our president can ask us to give generously to help them, when they didn't generously offer to help rebuild Pearl Harbor and all the ships in the harbor on 12-7-1941.

You know, it still grates on me just a little to hear the President talk about Japan as 'one of our closest allies'. For two reasons. One, we call them that after dropping two atomic bombs on them just half a century and a little more ago - which, if I were Japanese, would absolutely make me sick to the core. Two, I just finished reading Laura Hillebrandt's gut-wrenching 'Unbroken' and, as someone whose grandfather suffered at the hands of the Japanese in Changi, the Japanese will never, ever be my 'ally'. I am afraid that the sins of the fathers truly are visited upon the sons, especially when the second world war is often glossed over or not taught at all in japanese schools. My heart is moved enormously by the suffering of the innocents in this horrible national disaster and i will give generously to help them... but I will not be called an ally of their nation. Period.
