Good evening! I was following the comments on the articles on the new archbishop appointment at 7 o’clock the other day as it spiraled out of control. It was quite a sorry sight to see.

As a young adult and a Catholic living in OKC, I really dread when I see articles concerning my faith being brought up on news sites. They are either reporting the latest scandal within the Church or they are relatively benign but are a hornets nest of horrible ad hominem/off-topic rhetoric.

Already in further posts concerning the installation of Archbishop Coakley, NewsOK.com has been accused of censoring comments or defending the Catholic faith. Whereas I might be accused of being biased (perhaps rightfully so), I do not think this the case and I appreciate the intervention. I encourage civil discourse and healthy debate, but that clearly was not present.

Perhaps the ability for reader’s to flag other reader’s comments for review would be a benefit to implement in the future? It would allow a certain level of self-policing amongst readers while leaving the ability to block comments or ban to the site editors so that it would not be abused.
