My earliest memory of Superman would probably be either reruns of the George Reeves TV show or the Superfriends cartoons I watched on Saturday mornings. When I saw the first Christopher Reeve movie on TV, that’s when I became a major Superman fan. I would only buy a Superman comic in the early eighties because I didn’t seem to like them as much as all the Marvel Comics I was reading. When John Byrne took over in 1986, he was the reason I started buying every Superman comic every month for several years to come. Happy birthday, Superman!

This trailer is so amazing. Everything from the story, the action, to the music just has me more and more excited. Good thing Iron Man and Star Trek are coming up soon to keep me preoccupied.

This was my first Comicon and I loved it. I am not so much a comic nerd, but I still had fun! The celebrity line-up was fantastic, and it was so great to meet the people in real life that you admire. And I was really blown away with some of the cosplay costumes. I think the time we had to wait in certain line were appropriate, and everyone was so nice to each other. Someone would accidentally bump into you and they would give a genuine apology. It was a great atmosphere and everyone was so positive. The people and volunteers that put this together should be very proud of themselves. I came all the way up from Wichita and it was worth the drive. I will definitely be back next year!

I thought Planet Comicon rocked. I was surprised at how much fun my wife had since it was her first. She had a blast. It probably isn’t possible but it almost seemed like it should have went longer (ie days) since some of the rooms were SRO and then some. We will definitely plan on being there next year.

Planet Comicon blew up this year in a great way! The move and expansion of the yearly gathering really brought it home for the win. P.C. has always been a great time, now we can prove it to our friends and promote the event through the year to boost attendance even more. I think they should lease even more space next year, Saturday was absolutely packed and there were seemingly little growing pains. I know Justin and his team had to have done their homework and worked their butts off to have the show go off so well. Anything that was an issue on Saturday, like the availability of food and drink vending, was taken care of by the next morning. Excellent, excellent job, Justin, you done KC proud!

I have attended several other cons throughout the country, this is the first time attending this one. If the forward momentum can be kept up, I think this will join other conventions on a national scale drawing more and more people to this great city. There’s a lot of potential for fantastic growth.

Hope Supes has a brain in this movie. I just get tired of the Kryptonian being a dummy who needs to be taught by Batman (in the Timm animations) or Lois (Smallville). And by the way, in those animations, Batman wins everytime he is pitted against Supes. In one story he even stole Lois’ affection away from ol’ Red-and-Blue.

Supes has also been characterized as a less-than-admirable stalker and an insufferable pout-master (Singer movie and the pre-1996 wedding comics) when a female reporter–who was always mean to him, anyway–turns her attention elsewhere. There was no “man” in any of those Superman portrayals.

Hope this Superman grow a brain and a pair of you-know-whats. He’ll need both for his new sqeeze–Wonder Woman.

Unfortunately, I don’t expect Carmine’s passing to make the network TV news like Roger Ebert’s did. Last night I managed to catch ABC then NBC and then CBS’s tributes to Ebert. I’ll just have to pull out my copy of Star Wars #45 and reread it today; that’s the first comic I can remember asking my mother to buy me at the supermarket that had Infantino artwork.

I’ve been expecting Ebert to pass away for some time now, but this still hurts. I watched Siskel and Ebert for most of the 1980s and followed them less religiously after that.

Lon – I’d also love to see Priest and Bright return in some capacity. I don’t know if either are still actively involved in creating comics – it seems Priest stepped away several years ago. But if possible, I’d love to see their work on Q&W again, even if it’s a one-shot or one of the new stories Valiant has been doing for their classic hardcover collections.
