New “Wanted” photos, trailer
Universal has released several images and a new trailer for “Wanted,” starring Angelina Jolie and James MacAvoy. It’s based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar and JG Jones. I’ll get more pictures up later today, and have some information from Top Cow about the “Wanted” graphic novel from the ComicsPRO conference sometime this week. The movie opens June 27.
Synopsis by Universal:
Based upon Mark Millar’s explosive graphic novel series and helmed by stunning visualist director Timur Bekmambetov—creator of the most successful Russian film franchise in history, the Night Watch series—Wanted tells the tale of one apathetic nobody’s transformation into an unparalleled enforcer of justice. In 2008, the world will be introduced to a hero for a new generation: Wesley Gibson. 25-year-old Wes (James McAvoy) was the most disaffected, cube-dwelling drone the planet had ever known. His boss chewed him out hourly, his girlfriend ignored him routinely and his life plodded on interminably. Everyone was certain this disengaged slacker would amount to nothing. There was little else for Wes to do but wile away the days and die in his slow, clock-punching rut.Until he met a woman named Fox (Angelina Jolie). After his estranged father is murdered, the deadly sexy Fox recruits Wes into the Fraternity, a secret society that trains Wes to avenge his dad’s death by unlocking his dormant powers. New ‘Wanted’ trailer
The new trailer for “Wanted,” starring James MacAvoy, Angelina Jolie and Morgan Freeman, is up at Myspace Trailer Park. “Wanted” is based on the graphic novel by Mark Millar and JG Jones.
While “Wanted,” the film, looks as if it has stripped most of the superhero/supervillain source material out of the film, the trailers so far make it look like an action-packed adventure about a cadre of secret assassins.
Really, I’m just hoping I like the ending better than I liked the ending of the comic books.

Looking at Apple’s “most popular” trailers as of Jan. 15 reveals a lot of buzz around based-on-comics films in the works for 2008.
#1. Wanted - Based on the Mark Millar comic-book miniseries for Top Cow.
#2. The Dark Knight - Introducing Heath Ledger as the Joker.
#3. Hellboy: The Golden Army – Guillermo del Toro directs this sequel starring Mike Mignola’s blue-collar supernatural hero.
(And at #5, the Wachowski Brothers’ Speed Racer, based on the classic anime. And this trailer is seriously growing on me.)
