Anne Hathaway confirms Catwoman role to Oprah
While talking to Oprah Winfrey post-Oscars, Anne Hathaway revealed she will in fact be playing Catwoman in “The Dark Knight Rises.” (The press release referred to her character only as “Selina Kyle,” the name of Catwoman in the comics.)
“So the real story is, I was waiting to hear if I’d been cast as Catwoman. And my manager called me, and said ‘Are you sitting down?’ And I just go, ‘Oh, my God, here it comes.’ And she says ‘You’re about to hear something you will never hear again in your whole life.’ I’m like, ‘Okay.’ And she goes, ‘You’ve been asked to host the Oscars.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m Catwoman! … What? … Oh. Oh. Okay. What?’” Hathaway said on Oprah (via Spinoff Online).

Natalie Portman joins short list of Oscar-winning actresses in superhero films (Oscar pictures)
Natalie Portman, who won the Academy Award for Best Actress at last night’s Oscars, will be seen this summer as Jane Foster in “Thor,” starring Chris Hemsworth. Portman, who appeared in a purple dress by Rodarte, with Tiffany jewels, won the award for “Black Swan,” directed by Darren Aronofsky.
Portman joins a short list of actresses with Academy Awards who have appeared in superhero films. Anna Paquin, who won best supporting actress for “The Piano,” appeared in 2000′s “X-Men.” Halle Berry won the best actress award for the 2001 film “Monster’s Ball,” and has appeared in the previous 3 “X-Men” films as well as 2004′s “Catwoman” (for which she won a Razzie).
The list could grow – Academy Award winner Sally Field has been mentioned as a possibility to play Aunt May in the upcoming “Amazing Spider-Man,” and Marion Cotillard has been rumored as a possible addition to “The Dark Knight Rises.”
“Thor” is scheduled to open on May 6.

Please cast Mila Kunis as the Wasp, Joss Whedon (Oscar pictures)
Mila Kunis looked fantastic last night at the 83rd annual Academy Awards. While she clearly has her pick of roles right now, I’d love to see her in a superhero franchise – like the upcoming Avengers, perhaps? Who better to play Janet Van Dyne, aka the Wasp, who went from airheaded socialite to hard-nosed leader of the Avengers? Maybe Joss Whedon got the same idea watching the Oscars. What do you think? Should Mila Kunis play a superhero?

Matt’s last-minute Oscar picks, 2011
I have flip-flopped at the last minute and picked “The King’s Speech” over “The Social Network” for best picture tonight at the Academy Awards, reversing my prediction from Wednesday. They are both great movies, but I think “Speech” will resonate more with Oscar voters.
Here are my final Oscar picks for 2011. Follow the Oscars live via live-blogs by BAM and Staticblog. The ceremony airs tonight on ABC, hosted by James Franco and Anne Hathaway.

Dark Knight snubbed; Ledger gets nod
The nominees for the Academy Awards were released this morning, and unsurprisingly, Heath Ledger was nominated for best supporting actor for “The Dark Knight.” However, “The Dark Knight” failed to receive a nomination for best picture or best director.
