Former Norman resident Christian Kane will make an appearance on the soundtrack of the video game “NASCAR 09.”  The game will feature a mix of rock, country, metal, and punk music.  Other acts on the soundtrack include P.O.D., AFI, and The Black Keys.  Christian Kane starred as Lindsey on “Angel” and has appeared on the TV series “Vegas” and in the film “Friday Night Lights.”  Kane also appeared in Carrie Underwood’s video for the single “So Small.”

You can listen to the song “The House Rules” at www.myspace.com/christiankane.

“NASCAR 09″ will be available on PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360 and ships on June 10.

Pop star Britney Spears takes on the role of an anime superhero in a new video, released at http://www.blackoutball.com/.  This, along with Spears’ appearance on “How I Met Your Mother,” could be part of a strategy to get people talking about Britney for something other than her parenting skills and the underwear she may or may not be wearing.  The video accompanies her single “Break The Ice.”  (The “passwords” to see the video are “danger” and “victory.”)
The message boards at Britney.com don’t seem thrilled with the creative decision, but I actually liked it.  It’s doing something different and is, I think, an interesting move.

“Guitar Hero” publishers Activision have taken on a new role in music – sponsors of The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

The game publisher will support the museum’s efforts to collect, preserve and interpret the global impact of rock and roll music.  Visitors will also be able to demo “Guitar Hero” in the Hall itself, as well.

Activision will sponsor the Cleveland rock museum’s exhibit on real guitar heroes — Johnny Cash, Kurt Cobain, Jerry Garcia, Robbie Robertson and others. Activision will be an official sponsor of the 2008 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony to be held on March 10 in New York City at the Waldorf Astoria.
“We’re incredibly excited about this partnership,” said Steve Dobo, Director of Sponsorships for the Rock Hall, in a release. “Activision’s support not only helps us tell the guitar chapter of the rock and roll story, but it also gives our visitors a chance to step onto the virtual stage and kick out some jams while they’re here.”
A spokesman for Activision agreed that visitors would enjoy trying out Guitar Hero while in the honorary home of many a guitar hero.
“Where there’s music, there’s Guitar Hero, and there are countless Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees who’ve appeared in Guitar Hero,” said Dusty Welch, Head of Publishing for Activision/RedOctane, in a release.  “We are absolutely thrilled by the opportunity to offer visitors a chance to live out their fantasies by playing tracks from the artists they are paying homage to.”

It’s perhaps outside the interest level of a lot of Nerdage readers, but Brandy McDonnell and I discuss the Academy of Country Music and Country Music Television award nominees in this week’s entertainment podcast.

In something of a “full circle” move, the band Fall Out Boy (who took their name from the Radioactive Man’s sidekick on “The Simpsons”) have signed with Dabel Brothers to lend their expertise to a comic based on “different versions” of themselves.

From industry Web site www.icv2.com:

The as yet unnamed project will be produced in collaboration with the band with heavy involvement in particular from bassist Pete Wentz and drummer Andy Hurley. Hurley, a self confessed lifelong comics fan, noted that the project provided “the opportunity to create different versions of ourselves and tell an interesting story at the same time.”
